By Adeboye Amosu: English Championship club, Birmingham City, are on the trail of Nigeria defender,Shehu Abdullahi, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.
The versatile Adullahi who can also play in midfield has been a key player for Cypriot outfit Anorthosis Famagusta since linking up with the club from Portuguese side Uniao de Madeira in September 2016.
Abdullahi is in the final year of his contract at the club, and according to a report in the Birmingham mail , he will be available for around £500k in January.
Anorthosis are looking to cash in on Abdullahi as they risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.

Tricky one, very good for Birmingham but not sure for Shehu. If he shakes off the challenge from Ebuehi and plays well at the WC, his stock would be above Birmingham and they could be making a handsome profit off him after 5 months. Can he be patient and not have the baggage of clubs having to deal with Birmingham after the WC? The other side of this is he finds himself on the SE bench or has a bad WC, then he'll be grateful to have a job at Birmingham.

If Onazi can be refused a work permit by Birmingham application.. this deal is already dead on arrival.. Championship side may not get the Work permit bottle neck across the line..

its a difficult decision. I would have made the comment you made, 100%, no reservation. But, its not straightforward at all. Signing for Birmingham now also secures his future. God forbid bad thing, imagine he gets injured, seriously. And misses the world cup? then what?felarey wrote:Tricky one, very good for Birmingham but not sure for Shehu. I am just going to walk away from this one. lol. Whatever decision he makes, may God protect and guide him.

Birmingham are rooted at the foot of the league table.
Just checked.

We are thankful for their interest and want to remind them that we too get eye for better things. Shehu is waiting for a better offer...Damunk wrote:Wow.

The Championship is better than Cyprus.
He should not go to a club where he is battling to avoid League 1 football though.

Re: Shehu Abdullahi in Birmingham Link
He should be going to a club like Swansea, Palace, WBA or Newcastle. Birmingham should stay away from our Eagles abeg. Shehu and Onazi are better than that.
Re: Shehu Abdullahi in Birmingham Link
500k for Shehu in this day & age of 80m defenders? What a bargain. Whoever buys him at that price will be laughing all the way to the bank this time next year.

But we are looking at the third tier, not the Championship.truetalk wrote:The Championship is better than Cyprus.

Birmingham are rock bottom of the Championship half way through the season.

Why Birmingham for God's sake?
Over a year ago, Birmingham inexplicably sacked their english manager Gary Rowett who had them in the playoff position and doing very well. Since then, it has been a downward slide that will lead them to relegation. They got Gianfranco Zola in and then Harry RedKnapp who got them to escape relegation by their whiskers. This season has been worse. If Shehu goes to Birmingham, he will likely be relegated with them. When Redknapp left, he said there is a failure culture there that cannot be easily overcome. Meanwhile, Gary Rowett is looking likely to get Derby County into the EPL next season.

Sometimes you got to wonder who advises these players or who their agents are.
Shehu is way better than Birmingham. Does he have to come to England. He should go to
French league, mid table Spanish league or German league. He is that good not Birmingham. Being linked to Birmingham is already a disadvantage to him.

Well, it's not s if he is "applying" to Birmingham.soma wrote:Sometimes you got to wonder who advises these players or who their agents are.

So its not exactly his fault if they are the ones interested in his services.

Re: Shehu Abdullahi in Birmingham Link
This is sad if he goes, because he is a top flight level player. He should be going to midtable teams in the top 5 leagues, he is better than a good share of mid table right backs in European top flight.
Re: Shehu Abdullahi in Birmingham Link
Birmingham aren't the only ones interested in his services according to reports (Freiburg is supposedly among the interested parties; as is Trabzonspor). Moreover, as he will be a free agent in the summer, he's likely to study any January offers very carefully before making any decision.
Let's wait and see what happens.

Freiburg would be ideal for him. I doubt if he would get into an English team anyway as work permit issues will be a problem.
