Rio Olympics goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel is now back home in Nigeria after his contract with South African giants Orlando Pirates was canceled.

“I’m no longer with Pirates,” he simply told SCORENigeria in Kaduna

However, he won’t reveal his new destination.

It is understood that his lack of game time at Pirates caused his contract to be called off.

The former Enugu Rangers and Shooting Stars shot stopper, who is from a goalkeeping family, was outstanding at the Rio Olympics as Nigeria finished third in Brazil two years ago.

In Rio, he shut out South Africa-based rival Daniel Akpeyi, who is now being considered for the World Cup in Russia.

He wasn't even on Orlando Pirates's FIFA 08 Roster.

Kpom. Another one I had high hopes for after showing great potential with the U-20 and U-23 teams.

Interesting observation but Akpeyi was able to lock down a starting shirt in the same league while this guy got sacked

He also consigned Akpeyi to the bench at the Olympics.

Pirates is a bigger club than Chippa United. Don't think Akpeyi would start for Pirates.

I do not think that Akpeyi being on the bench indicated that Daniel was better. In fact, Siasia made it clear that his invitation to Akpeyi was specifically to light a fire under Daniel after the poor show in the Asian tourney prior to the Olympics. Thus, for me I do not think Daniel being the starter at Olympics demonstrated his superiority. If that was the case why did he not bench Akpeyi when he was subsequently invited to the SE after the Olympics? For me, I would hesitate to make a definitive statement on Daniel being better.

Interesting debate about two equally poor goalkeepers...

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

I don’t know the keepers they have in each team so I won’t use size of club to judge. By the way Lloris is better than Cech but he keeps for a smaller club.

Not sure what we should do. Stop discussing them because they're not good enough? We don't have any better and we have to choose one of these "poor" guys to man the post at the world cup.

Bros even Ezenwa was the third option in that team. Our goalkeeper situation is worrying but we need a careful analysis of the situation. I was pointing out the ridiculousness of saying someone is far better than someone else based on nothing and based on little factoids (like x starts, y doesn't; y benched x 2 years ago).
