Super Falcons of Nigeria edged out the Female Eagles of Mali 1-0 in their first game in the 2018 WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations tourney in Cote d’Ivoire.

FC Robo Queens striker Rasheedat Ajibade scored the solitary goal that separated the sides on the stroke of full-time, to secure all three points for ten-time African champions.

The Super Falcons had a lot of chances at goal in the game but Mali’s goalkeeper Karantoa Fatoumata and her defence partners stood their ground to resist the Nigerians’ firepower.

However, the Female Eagles, who bossed possession for most part of the game, paid dearly for their sloppy play in the final third when Nigeria’s Ajibade struck to broke the deadlock, few seconds to the end of the game.

The win was a remarkable one for new coach Thomas Dennerby as he watched his side snatch up a vital win on his first competitive game in charge.

Mali accepted a late call up to the regional tourney to replace Benin Republic, who tendered an unexpected withdrawal notice to be excused from the inaugural edition of the tourney.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

Rasheedat Ajibade. Note, circle, underline that name. She's something special!
