Rumours of sack of NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi persists despite denials

Several top NFF officials have vehemently denied a plan to dismiss general secretary Mohammed Sanusi, but this rumour just won’t go away.

The matter may even have been discussed at today’s NFF executive committee in Lagos.

The romance between Sanusi and the NFF leadership led by Amaju Pinnick and engineered by a former NFF chieftain has really soured of late.

Unconfirmed reports reaching SCORENigeria say a committee led by vice-president Seyi Akinwunmi may have indicted the general secretary as regards the ineligibility scandal involving Shehu Abdullahi, which led to FIFA docking the country three points in the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

There is also the unresolved case of the missing $40,000 stolen at the NFF secretariat.

There was also a showdown between the secretariat and the NFF president after some staffers were disgracefully ejected from Morocco just on arrival.

“Sanusi was a nobody in Morocco as his role and functions were usurped by a powerful executive committee member,” a top source informed SCORENigeria

An insider told SCORENigeria that the plot to unseat was first hatched during the NFF/stakeholders retreat in Lafia, Nasarawa State, prior to the last Annual General Assembly in Jos last year.

The will power to do away with the PHE doctorate degree holder is there, but the timing – this is a World Cup year and about seven months to the NFF polls – has been the biggest obstacle to replacing him with a top League Management Company (LMC) executive, SCORENigeria has been told.

“They are also fighting on many fronts, both enemies within and outside the system,” a very senior official further explained.

IT WOULD BE A NEW NIGERIA WHERE...

...people are held accountable for performance (or the lack thereof) of assigned responsibilities.
