AGUERO- Still Never been in PFA Team of the Year

Post by F360 »

This is crazy

Sergio Aguero has never been named in the PFA team of the year while he's been in England. SEVEN seasons. 143 goals in 203 PL matches. Unarguably one of the top five deadliest strikers in Prem history. Fantastic scoring rate. Usually the main striker for the PL champ ends up in the PFA team of the year. Not one time was Aguero voted in. Some might say it's because the players don't like him. Luis Suarez made the PFA team of the year a couple of times (Not sure anyone can claim Suarez is a likeable player to opposing fans, coaches and most importantly other players). Daniel friggin Sturridge made the PFA team of the year in 2013/14 w/Suarez. That's fine, it wasn't a prime Aguero season as he ended up under 20 PL goals. But the 2014/15 omission stinks. 2011/12 when City won the PL, Rooney and RVP bested Aguero in scoring as he ended up third on the list.

The 2014/15 non-selection is just the most egregious imo. 2014/15 he led the league in scoring with 26 goals- Diego Costa and Harry Kane made the team. Costa and Kane were behind Aguero in scoring that season. Costa is every bit as unlikeable as Suarez (if we say the players factor in likeability). The seasons in which City won the league and Aguero ended up third on the scoring charts, he didn't end up in the PL team of the year. Yet Costa AND Kane get voted in for 2014/15? Absurd.

At the moment he is on the way to his best goal scoring season since he's been at City and yep, you guessed it, he'll probably not make the PFA team of the year as Kane and now Salah are having excellent seasons. Just still doesn't seem right Aguero will go 8 season in the PL (after this season) without ever having made the PFA team of the year.

I mean, it's players voting but are they just idiots? Is it that simple? It can't be likeability because as mentioned, Costa and Suarez have made the team of the year before. Also, Aguero isn't out there doing Suarez things to make opposing players hate him. Aguero isn't out there doing Diego Costa things and throwing tantrums...despite competition being brought in by Pep to essentially replace him.

He is the only PL golden boot winner to never make it into the PFA team of the year.

I say all that...as a Man United supporter who despises City and everything about that but I can respect the greats that helped them succeed over the past decade- Kompany, Yaya, Aguero, David Silva.

Twenty-one league goals. Sergio Aguero is on course to register his highest tally ever in the Premier League. The 29-year-old is in the form of his life. He showed another glimpse of his undoubted quality by scoring a belter in the 4-0 victory over Basel in the Champions League. The Argentina international has hit his stride at the right time, as City’s push for a quadruple intensifies.

From his four-goal performance against Leicester in City's last league match back to the goal that won the Premier League title in 2012, a strike that ensured he will forever be remembered as a City legend, he has never been named in the PFA Team of the Year. Simply put, that is unbelievable. The four-goal romp against the Foxes made the Argentine the first Premier League player to accomplish the feat on three occasions. He has not been named as part of the Premier League's best 11 in any season despite winning the title twice in his time in England.

City is on course for a brilliant league triumph at season's end. While Belgian play-maker Kevin De Bruyne has been head and shoulders above every other player in the league, Sergio Aguero has also been instrumental in establishing the Citizen's 16-point lead atop the table. Overall, he has 29 goals in 33 matches. Yet, he is in danger of being ignored again, as Harry Kane is on track for a third consecutive Golden Boot. If the voters decide to nominate by position, Liverpool's Mo Salah and Aguero's own teammate Leroy Sane could pip him to the other forward spots.
His impressive numbers in the Premier League have been struck in efficient fashion. The former Atletico Madrid man boasts a scoring rate which only Thierry Henry and Kane can match. It's a tragedy he has not been voted by his fellow professionals to be part of a season's best XI. Aguero's quiet nature may make him appear distant in what is essentially a popularity contest voted on by peers. His struggles with English may also factor into his exclusion. He is not known to have close friends outside the Spanish-speaking City players and Albiceleste players around the league.

Kun's 21 league goals rank him third in a tight scoring race with Salah (22) and Kane (23). He may need to win the Golden Boot to finally make the list. If City can wrap the title up early, the club will be able to look for him more than usual, to get him over the line. A strong finish coupled with club honours will make it difficult for the rest of the league not to vote for him.

Aguero is a world class striker. He deserves recognition. One hundred forty-three league goals in just 203 matches is a pace that ranks with the very best. The case for him to finally be included in 2017/18 is strong. A player who lets his game do all the talking should be shown more appreciation.
