Um, Liverpool hasn't won the CL but Man City has already won the league. What kind of poll is this?

Head to head matchups will give it to Liverpool. If Liverpool wins the CL I think it should end the debate.

Head to head match up and champions league whatever. I don't know why people cannot comprehend simple things.

The best team by FA and all the clubs and probably fans too is decided by the team with the most points, over the course of the season. Champions have lost to relegation bound teams, so lol Ng to Liverpool is one battle lost but City won the war. They are crowned champions and by inference, the best team in England. They happened to play some sumptuous football at the same time, so no argument there.

CL, depends on luck of the draw as well as performances.Liverpool, if they win will be champions of Europe but the best in England is already decided or the trophy and all the process of 38 games is meaningless

Man City is the best team in England, but Liverpool is the team I'd pay to watch. What a forward line. Hopefully they get to the finals.

Should we also consider the head-to-head between Liverpool and West Brom? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Best Team in ENGLAND is the Champions of EPL. Manchester City is that Team.

When/if Liverpool wins the CL, they WILL become best team in EUROPE.

By their logic, West Brom should be the best team in England. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

It won't hurt to climb out of the box and think a little. England in Europe is too unimaginative.

If Real Madrid win the CL, it doesn't make them the best team in England, same goes for Liverpool.
CL is decided over 10 games from the group stage, with a week or more between games. The structure of a mini league and knockout games can favor some cup specialists.

The EPL is a league of 20 teams. You're tested physically, mentally and emotionally than CL games.

It takes a lot to be a league champion. It is over 38 games of twice a week games in some cases and no rest holiday periods.

The winning team must manage a whole aspect of the game to be crowned the best. Liverpool is not that team. You can make a case for the most attacking minded or the most exciting team.

Winning CL makes them European Champions but not the best team in England.

You may be right, but I don't like this question is being framed (STFU Gotti).

There is NO argument to be made by comparing performance in one staged, based on parameters in another.

The question should be changed to Best team FROM England this season, Liverpool or City?

That way we can tackle the issue head on and avoid semantics. Does winning the CL trump winning the league. Does head to head in the league account for some of the point differential in the league.

I think you make a very obvious point about the merits of the league, nobody can argue against that. But let us make this argument without any bias.

There is a reason why numerous league winners in the European top leagues have never won the UCL, and also why that title mainly rests in an elite group of clubs. The UCL has its own way of testing you. It is a different stage. The level of competition can be higher (depending on circumstances), and the desire and hunger to perform is infinitely higher.

Therefore, you are more likely to see the best teams performing at their best in the CL, as opposed to low-medium-high level teams performing at varying levels throughout the year.

The league is an endurance race, but an inconsistent endurance race. The CL puts the best against the best and at their best. There is no resting of players, no holding back in the CL. You substitute frequency for magnitude. Everything is amplified! The distance between countries, the expectations etc.

You're actually reinforcing my point albeit a slight twist. Winning the CL has its own challenges and I'm not denying that. But sticking to the topic of this thread, one can only hand the best team tag in England to Man City because it is measurable and the measuring criteria is winning the league and winning the league is measured by winning more games, managing the season better, essentialy amassing more points than the remaining teams.

Now to middle the water with CL, it sometimes require different "know how" and mentality to with the league. Real struggle in the league but their mentality is "we own the CL". That could psychologically boost their effort in the CL and damage their domestic league effort.
That could also be said of league champions. When they are top of the league, they put more effort into making sure it is secured. Teams like Liverpool and Real, put more effort into something winnable and not one they are likely to miss out on.

In any case, no matter our hypothesis, the best team in England is decided by the the league title. As you rightly out it, the question can be reworded to the best team overall or who achieved more this season etc.
