this is a huge signing for Leon
Brighton have completed the signing of Nigeria international defender Leon Balogun on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old left Bundesliga side Mainz at the end of the season and has signed a two-deal with the Seagulls.

Balogun missed the 2014 World Cup through injury but has been named in Nigeria's preliminary 30-man squad for this year's tournament in Russia.

"Leon will add more depth to our defensive options," said Brighton manager Chris Hughton.

"I am pleased to get our first piece of business done so early in the summer. He is in the peak years of his career and I am sure he will integrate well into the squad.

"He also has valuable experience, having played in the Bundesliga, the Europa League and at international level."

I hope he can push the two guys currently playing the role. Both looked good together and one of them is our Irish international.

Brighton enters list of teams that I will be watching in 2018/19 EPL season.

Man, it is so much fun being a Nigerian football fan these days. Look at the embarrassment of riches of talents coming up and the oldies are turning into fine wine.

Ok move but should not be signing a 2 year contract at 29.......

Given his injury record I'm not sure he was in a position to make such demands
Besides Brighton are a mid table Premier league side.
They are no more likely to be relegated than say Leicester.

Anyway this is a huge signing.
The highest profile move by a Nigerian defender in a long time
Well done Balogun

Very good move from a member of the 'oyibo wall'. Very pleased for him. I am sure he will acquaint himself well. And as a free agent, that whole signing fee na e pocket straight. Even better.

The EPL is the ultimate stage for a defender to be tested because of its physicality. This is fantastic news!

good for Balogun; I would have gone for Ekong first unless his team demands too much money ? Regardless its win win for SE. Ekong should be playing in a better Team or in EPL.

"Leon will add more depth to our defensive options," said Brighton manager Chris Hughton.

Hm. I am not sure I like the sounds of that. Sounds too much like squad player/ bench warmer to me.

Nah, Balo has the perfect abbreviation to fit in with the lads and can even go as far as LB. Such qualities are essential for survival in the dressing room. @Mazi, no need for concern, this one is definitely, ohseenacchi!!!
