Why are we trying to play European style football. See how Mexico is playing with pace and with a clear plan against a superior European team. What I saw yesterday was Nigeria trying to play a style that does not play to our strengths.

They want to be like Europeans.

I think our next coach should keep what makes Nigerian football unique while integrating good team organization into the team. This is what Brazil is doing. Brazil organization is very good, but they still have their flare.

There is nothing wrong with trying to play like the Europeans, but then you must be better than them at their own game and of course have the personnel to be able to execute.

Which countries for example have the personnel to be able to execute European football at the highest level.

Rohr said the winner of a game is based on where their players play, I guess the Mexican players must play in clubs in another planet cos a bunch of hey yous just trashed Germany. If their number 7 Layun was sharper it could have been 4-0. Rohr is trying to kill the Nigerian spirit with his excuses and as usual the brain washed cowardly SE fans are buying it.

Nigerians don't understand what playing to your strengths entails because if they did they would have built on what they started in 94 but since then they've never seemed to improve!

1. Where was the space? The Croatian midfield were good at the job of blocking our passing outlets. I think that is their tactic. They employed it against Brazil it worked but for the individual brilliance of Neymar.


2. Rohr's input of 'organization' on the team was entirely felt in the game but who was at the core? Mikel Obi, who apparently had no gas to enforce urgency and drive on the team. The whole team simply moved at Mikel's wavelength.

We have the player to execute the speed and flair approach. Iwobi, Moses, Etebo etc.
Maybe on another game with a different coaching.

I'd rather a Croatian as Nigerian national team coach than a German.

Our football cultures are as alien to each other as a Martian to an Earthling.

African speed and flair ended in 2002 with Senegal being the last team to exhibit it.
Now African teams are trying to beat Europe at their own game.

The modern game is one touch, quick passing and emphasizing fitness and athleticism. The slow, dribbling African style soccer will not fair well at this World Cup.
Let's just lower expectations and ask for CAF teams to, at least, score. Expecting them to win is expecting too much.

Not true. Ghana had the same approach. They also have a very specific way of playing their football: quick movement, fast interpassing. They showed that in 2006 and in 2010, as well as in 2014 (even if it didn't go their way).

That’s why they need to evolve and improve on what they do add elements of the game that suit today’s game football (not soccer ) ,If you watch videos of European teams in the 60s up intill recent times you’ll notice the obvious changes but that’s all part of the evolution of the game the most successful teams adapt but and that’s why their names continue to be printed on trophies they improve on what they do they don’t just scrap it and start afresh!

What do you expect when you play a slow center foward, a slow attacking midfielder, and a wide forward who falls with the slightest contact?

We need to revert to the Amo Yekini type strike partnership where Amokachi drops back sometime to set something going

Yeah. Got to admit Ghana may change this and that but the general way they play football is the same.

Given how they played Korea and Iceland I'm sure Ghana would have done well at the World Cup, had they made it.

Rohr is our "Technical adviser" and Salifu Yusuf is our Cheif Coach < biko, what is the difference? And how much input do the other coaching staff have? Surely one of them can suggest implementation of the Nigerian style of play?

True. Nigeria's only advantage was burst of speed. Instead they tried to play a "tactical" game. What a mistake!
