We’ve played one game

Post by waka-man »

Been offline on a retreat since Sunday.
I’ve returned to a forum in mourning
Because we lost one game at the World Cup.

So let me put my neck on the line here and say I’m not giving up.
I too have rewatched the game.
We were poor
Very poor
Seems we psyched ourselves out
With a plan to play safe that we couldn’t change when we fell behind
Some of it was frankly puzzling
But it’s one game

And let’s give the Croats credit.
They had a plan and stuck to it
To put our full backs under pressure.
To force Moses and Iwobi to defend
To play make from much deeper than usual so as to avoid our strong defensive mid
And they did that

Yet we have a very well organised side. It’s why our opponents have so few shots on goal. Not been able to say that at a WC. Ever.
And Uzoho has shown while not there yet, he’s not a calamity
It’s a platform to build on

Of course after Saturday my expectations are dampened
But I’m cautiously optimistic about the Iceland game
They’ll probably settle for a draw
We’re crap against teams like that
But it’s now or never
And that too is often where we’re at our best

I actually think Rohr will stick with his formation with perhaps Shehu sacrificed for Ebuhi’s superior attack play and Iheanacho for his superior movement
It’ll be a tough game
But win it and we’re right back in it

Keep the faith

Thanks waka-man, many flip floppers herein are giving up but
some of us will keep light burning. Watch them outshout the believers
when the SE show some pride.

governments destroy freedom, the press destroys information, religion destroys morals, and our banks destroy the economy.”

We played to not lose and ended up losing. But with the right formation, team effort and mental attitude we can still get out of this group. Go Eagles!

I think we were very poor. Tactically and organisation wise, we were fine. But no attacking intent in a game where we needed to stay in touch with the group. Maybe the earlier draw between Arg and Iceland made us lax.
