VAR our savior or executioner

Post by fishward6 »

All games with Argentina usually result in a penalty of a false free kick leading to a loss. Hopefully we can stop that Tuesday but any mistake a penalty will be given and if Iceland had taken theirs we would. Not be sitting pretty this is an illness we must stop. Taribo west would have been vindicated had VAR existed in his day

I think FIFA's decision to use this technology is a step in the right direction. In the past, the fact that referee's, even though human, couldn't reverse their decisions (even if wrong) was atrocious. Apart from Taribo's example, I remember Lampard's 2010 screamer against Germany which was disallowed, among many others. In 1990, England was awarded two controversial pks against Cameroon leading to their elimination.

In addition to helping to correct honest refereeing mistakes, the VAR will also keep actions of racist refs who deliberately make calls to eliminate teams they don't like at bay. Countries invest so much money, time, and emotions into the WC, and VAR is a technology that can certainly help improve the integrity of the competition. The truth should be both a savior and an executioner.

Did you see the Swedish -German game? Boateng should have been red carded and Sweden should have had a penalty, but, yet the ref refused to check Var. Var is to keep non-successful world cup teams in check

KPOM. Dont rely on VAR to save the "smaller" teams.
We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand

He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14

I think Spain’s by far the best league.

Yep. The competition is also invested in the big teams. Money talks. The big teams bring the big money - viewership, sponsorships etc. Even with VAR, they'll still find a way to be partial towards big teams like Germany. The longer they're kept in the competition to ramp up the anticipation for the mouth-watering contests between the big teams at the later stages, the better.

Didn't VAR get him sent off?
