Re: We need strikers ooo
The issue is actually not one of strikers. Yes better strikers will certainly help, but that is not the main issue.
The main issue is our attacking setup. We create very few chances, regardless of what striker is playing.
We are not creating chances because we are not playing smart attacking soccer. Players are not making off ball runs. Fullbacks are not overlapping to join the attack.

We need a striker and very good number #10! We have no creativity in our midfield!!!!!!vancity eagle wrote:The issue is actually not one of strikers. Yes better strikers will certainly help, but that is not the main issue.

Alex Iwobi, yet not once was he played in that position in this worldcup even though it was clear from the England friendly that he owned that position. The Serbia match as well.
Rohr is to blame.
Re: We need strikers ooo
And what did your IWOBI do in the first GAME?? totally ANONYMOUS

And Kelechi Nwakali in waiting.vancity eagle wrote:we have a very good #10.Undertaker wrote:We need a striker and very good number #10! As for strikers we need to shop for strikers. Ighalo out.
Iheanacho, Sadiq Umar, Olanrenwaju Kayode, Simy for now are our best options (decent clubs, good goalscoring records).
And we have to monitor the Belgian strikers, Paul Onuachu, Isaac Success.
We need to either stick with 3-5-2 or move back to 4-4-2. Two strikers are a must though.
Another thing - we need more options on the wings. Right now we have Victor Moses, Moses Simon and possibly Ahmed Musa (best served in the middle though). Onyekuru, Kalu, Okwonkwo, Chukweuze are all great options.
Re: We need strikers ooo
He was played on the wing, but he isn't a winger. Play him as an AM.john12 wrote:And what did your IWOBI do in the first GAME?? totally ANONYMOUS

So was Ighalo but when the chips were down.....he came on.
You played 5 games from Zambia, Argentina, England, Poland, Serbia and your best player.......Iwobi, one bad 50mins, you drop him to the bench never to be seen again
A serious case of throwing away the baby with the Bath water.....
And Ighalo that has been stinking the place up since Cameroun gets on.....come on Rohr Bottled it

Re: We need strikers ooo
Who should iwobi had been dropped for in midfield?? Iwobi is a defensive LIABILITY and no sane coach will drop him for Ndidi, MIKEL OR etebo until he learns how to track back
Re: We need strikers ooo
Yes quality strikers needed. Mr Ighalo obviously needs a lot of chances to be able to bury one, definitely not what we are looking for. We need potent goal poachers.....the question is where do we get them from? Mr Success is definitely no where near it, is there hope?
Re: We need strikers ooo
Success is being played on the wing. A good coach would revert him back to the centre forward position and test him there. He (with his power and dribble) and Iheanacho match up perfectly with each other.fajex wrote:Yes quality strikers needed. But I agree. In general the closest we have to a striker making it is Sadiq Umar. But fact is Simy with 7 goals was our top striker in a top league, which 31 yo Ogbeche with 10 goals was the most prolific goalscorer in a decent league.
We need to improve on that. Hopefully this year will see a breakthrough.
Re: We need strikers ooo
Etebo is a headless chicken. I would however play him as a LWB.john12 wrote:Who should iwobi had been dropped for in midfield?? Iwobi is a defensive LIABILITY and no sane coach will drop him for Ndidi, MIKEL OR etebo until he learns how to track back
I would have at worst subbed Iheanacho for Iwobi in the second half, not for Misses Ighalo.
Re: We need strikers ooo
Etebo is SE present most complete/best Midfielder but like typical SE player the goat went to sign for a BACKWATER ten instead of going to a big club like Valencia
Re: We need strikers ooo
So you want to play three defensive minded players in midfield and plan to beat anyone? WTF?john12 wrote:Who should iwobi had been dropped for in midfield?? Iwobi is a defensive LIABILITY and no sane coach will drop him for Ndidi, MIKEL OR etebo until he learns how to track back
Everyone here including you knows that Mikel cannot last longer than 75mins....Mikel knows that.....
Etebo had one good game and against Iceland and Argentina was lost.....he was no AM, so you had no connection btw strikers and midfield.......Play Iwobi there, his ball retention is as good as most players. 75mins replace Mikel with anyone even Salisu Yusuf anyone but not even Ogu made it on, why play him in the friendlies when u know that if the chips were down, u cannot trust him......
The coach bottled it.
