Some people are progressive while others are happy to wallow in mediocrity, the latter unfortunately is the standard imposed on most of Africa by self-seeking and poor leadership.

Actually, you and a lot of people on this thread are the ones looking at things the wrong way. What should guide your thoughts isDIMKA76 wrote:Some people are progressive while others are happy to wallow in mediocrity, the latter unfortunately is the standard imposed on most of Africa by self-seeking and poor leadership.
Pareto Optimality.
Given the resources available to Enyimba, what was the best they could do?
The new Philadelphia Union stadium will seat 18,000 and cost $120 million.

The renovated Enyimba stadium will seat similar numbers at less than $2 million for wholesale renovation (The contract was for N300 million, but is ending up a bit higher). That is progress. Not world class, but progress.
Plus, about 8 sides in the NPFL (sometimes) play in better stadia than Enyimba's.
Hopefully, they can take the next step and become independent of Government funding and be self sustaining & then they can make long term plans, including a standard stadium.
Having said that, a couple of things disappoint with the stadium, even given current resources that should be available.
1) The pitch: No excuse for not having natural grass. We have Universities of Agriculture littered all over the country, and we can't come up with a could of cheap local grass standards for our stadia and playgrounds? Yet billions get allocated to these institutions annually, & we can't see effective results of research to indicated the slightest hint of town & gown partnerships that have triggered development in other countries.
2) The Design: You might not be able to do everything in one year. You can even open the stands a section at a time, but the pillars are so 1965. I met with the leadership of Deux (the PH stadium builders) recently & I was blasting them on the design. They sad another company did that part & the Government handed the design to them.
All in All, good job Enyimba. They are the leading light in club football at the moment.
Hopefully, they let Akin Alabi buy Shooting. The young man has money to spend and loves the club, but the politicians and hangers on that make money of annual allocations will not let it happen.

We didn't stop you from criticizing. We only exercised our right of reply. Enyimba fans are happy. That is all that matters.ohenhen1 wrote:Dr Sabinus and co can't handle constructive criticism.
That stadium is ugly, the only thing good about it now is the pitch.

This is like comparing apples and oranges - Different world 1st world V 3rd world. Nobody is asking for everything to be done in a year but whatever they do should be done properly and to a decent standard. Even if it takes them 10 years to achieve.truetalk wrote:Actually, you and a lot of people on this thread are the ones looking at things the wrong way. If anyone remembers Ranchers Bees stadium, then they might have an inkling on what I am referring to.

Nigeria is not known for great decision makers, planners and consistency at present so I guess no one in the position to upgrade Eyimba's stadium could even envision a cost effective beauty of a stadium anyway so that's what you get a lick of paint and a sweep up!DIMKA76 wrote:Coach wrote:Cant embed a video clip of AFC Fylde's stadium. Recently promoted to the fourth tier of English football. Mill Farm is part of a sporting complex that has a various of amenities within its compound. What is Enyimba stature domestically, are they a premier division club or in the lower, lesser leagues? Is their standing comparable to that of a fourth tier English side?DIMKA76 wrote:Coach wrote:Cant embed a video clip of AFC Fylde's stadium. Fourth tier. Worth a look at.

The funny thing is most of the ones shouting modern this modern that have no investment in the clubs in Nigeria, not even the singlet.
Modern ko, futuristic ni.

This is not a footballing issue. Enyimba may be a 1st division club, but we are located in Eastern Nigeria, and most importantly in Aba. Look at the area surrounding the stadium and tell me what you see. I cannot even begin to lament on how the lack of organization is killing Nigeria, as the discussion will not end. Aba was a manufacturing hub in the 80's and 90's, but has slowly become decrepit, with the various industries killed off by corruption and a lack of leadership at EVERY level. It is extremely difficult to have a well-designed/planned stadium, considering how the rest of the society is run.Coach wrote:Recently promoted to the fourth tier of English football. If nothing else, at least the team can finally play at home again.
