So all those complaining about Nigeria seeking to recruit players born overseas really need to open their eyes. Times have changed... for the better.
But regardless of where they are from, they are being brought up in the French system and the best make the French NT. We are going around picking from the leftovers of the ones that didn't make the cut in England, Germany, Netherlands etc...so their parent countries will always be better positioned than us as we are fighting for their leftovers while they are using the cream of the crop.
No, it's partly to do with timing. The English weren't happy when we took Iwobi - it wasn't the case of him not making the cut - he chose Nigeria over England. Same with Wilfred Zaha; these guys aren't left overs like Shola Ameobi.
The problem we face wrt England is their recent successes mean it will take even stronger and convincing arguments for youngsters like Ojo, Ejaria, Onomah, etc. to play for Nigeria.
Neither Iwobi nor Zaha would make this English team, Moses would tho so we won there. But in the examples in this article the players are from elsewhere but coming into the countries system rather than us looking to get players from others systems and end up with the Ekongs and Balogun who wouldn’t even be 5th choice in their country.
