Petrovic was a phenom! RIP.

It was very sad watching the documentary about him and Vlade Divac. They were best friends, until the war broke....and that was the end.

According to Divac, Yugoslavia had just won a basketball game around the time tensions were building up. A fan ran unto the court with a Croatian flag...he snatched it, without, according to him, thinking deeply about what it meant to his Croatian teammates. He said he thought the fan was bringing disharmony to the team, where politics were not being discussed. Petrovic, on the other hand, was deeply committed to Croatia, and he found Divac's actions too offensive to forgive.

I remember Zvonimir Boban kicking a Serbian policeman after a game. The cop may have maltreated a Croatian kid, if I recollect.

Hopefully there is a lesson for us in Nigeria about either staying together under civilized arrangements or separating peacefully.
