He could have explained this prior to the world cup. Furthermore, Erdogan is not just the President of Turkey. he represents nothing Germany stands for. Human rights violations, assassinations of opponents, putting people in Jail , Journalist in jails, ... etc.
Seriously ???
Ozil is an embarrassment for Germany. Good riddance to him. Based on current form for the last 3 years, he doesn't deserve a spot anyway.

If anyone qualified to be banned for stupidity and being retarded, u would be eminently qualified.

What about Putin and Mattheus choosing to meet with him; how much of what he stands for represents what Germany stands for?

And what does Germany stand for anyhow? The Syrian refugees? The neo-nazis or perhaps the Little Sisters of the Poor?

You let your feelings of Özil the footballer influence what really happened and if you took time to read his statement you would have known that he did explain himself...Angela Merkel, Teresa May and the queen all met Erdogan despite the record about him you just stated....Lothar Matthäus who is an employee of the DFB met Putin whose record is not if worse than the one of Erdogan but nobody said zilch.....Özil never proclaimed his support for Erdogan and he clearly stated that he took a picture with Erdogan the president due to his respect for the Turkish presidency(not Erdogan) due to his parents(actually grandfather coz Ozil father was born in Germany) turkish background. Özil made a joint press release with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German president about the issue...The thing is sometimes people choose to see/hear what the want to see oblivious of facts at hand because they dont want reality to influence their preconceived flawed views.....Are you sure that you are not one of those in this situation?

What exactly did he say? He said people were racist ... doesn't everyone use that word all over the place these days?
If they refuse you a loan, you call the bank racist.
If they refuse you a ride, you call the driver racist ... do we even know what "racist" mean today?
Ozil didn't even explain what he thought was racism. He simply uses the word ... for effect.

I read his explanation. And it is a very poor and bogus one.
It only took him 3 months to explain why he was meeting with the same Erdogan, who is trying to Jail and kill the Enes Kanter, who plays NBA Basket (and his father).
This is the man Mesut Ozil supports?

My point is that if he is really leaving the NT because of his poor performance he should shut up about racism.

You can't scream racism just because it fits your personal agenda.

Would he have said this had Germany won the WC? I don't think so..

You don't meet and take official pictures with people you don't support. He could have met with the President, but not take an official picture with him.
Can you show me how racism was done to Ozil, since he claims he was the victim of racism?

I am really pleased Ozil’s not only refused to take all the s#it he has had to without a fightback but also for calling it directly what it is.

This is exactly what Trevor Noah was talking about, with regards to the French team and society. “ When you win, you are French, but when you lose they will blackmail or tag you with your ancestry”.

If you don't understand, I suggest you read again what I wrote and the quoted messages I'm responding to.
People use "Racism" as an excuse for everything. Consistently dilapidating the actual meaning of the word.
People use "Racism" simply for effect ... or for gather sympathies. But, it is unfortunately just a lazy term used as a co-out.
Ozil never gave an explanation for why he met and took pictures with a dictator (and islamist fundamentalist), who has jailed tons of people in his country for no reason.
When asked to explain, he says the DFB is racist, deferring the blame.

There is so much hypocrisy going on there

The President of Germany has been hanging out with leaders of questionable character in recent times and no one in Germany bat an eyelid

They (Germans) have been scapegoating Ozil and Gündoğan since their lousy world cup exit, so they latch on to anything to question both players' German(ness), something that wasnt an issue 4yrs ago

Ozil is an embarrassment for Germany. Good riddance to him. Based on current form for the last 3 years, he doesn't deserve a spot anyway.
Did you read his statement where he said he spoke with some German officials and they mutually agreed to discuss it "AFTER" the world cup so they can concentrate on football

The hypocrisy as I stated above is endemic in the fact that German folks have associated with shady characters in the past and present and that is not a problem. Ozil is singled out because of his heritage and buoyed by the poor performance of Germany at the world cup

I applaud his for standing up.....the sign of bravery is taking a principled stance before it becomes popular to do so

The only place I disagree with him is quitting the national team, I know he is upset and he has a right to be, but he should do this for every German of ethnic descent and show these people he is indeed German and they cannot determine his fate for him...but that's just me

@Bep, nno! But what of Salah who was pictured with Kadyrov, who’s track record reads like a Peaky Blinder. The modern footballer is a massive agent for propaganda, much like the everyday Tom, d#$% and Harry hurries for their handset to selfie with the passing celebrity, fans of the game are much the same, irrespective of their standing. Erdogan knew a picture with Ozil had its value. One would imagine Ozil had little to no idea of the value of the photo. Much like Salah. Shades of the Andy Cole-Edwin Appiah snapshot. Germany had overreacted, it’s a picture which is open to interpretation by all. The openness inviting all agendas and opinions.

They asked him for 3 months to explain the picture and the meeting ... he didn't say a single word. Did he want people to read what is in his heart?
He could have explained this prior to the world cup. Furthermore, Erdogan is not just the President of Turkey. he represents nothing Germany stands for. Human rights violations, assassinations of opponents, putting people in Jail , Journalist in jails, ... etc.
Seriously ???
Ozil is an embarrassment for Germany. Good riddance to him. Based on current form for the last 3 years, he doesn't deserve a spot anyway.
Pathetic...no surprise here.
