15 BILLION STOLEN AT NFF, ALLEGES EFCC BY ITS OFFICIALS

I would very much like to understand why Pinnick Signed that ridiculous deal with NIKE and why Adidas refused to deal with Nigeria.

I have always said the NFF should be awash with cash. There is no reason for them to say they are always broke, It doesn't make any sense to me. All these transfer that happen year after year, is anybody paying taxes ?. These kids were trained in Nigeria? how come they are not depositing the monies in Nigerian and paying Nigerian Taxes.

These are all the things the government should be looking into. And they need to turn Nigerian football into a free market system instead of the governmental control its under right now. It will bring real investors into the market so we can have huge clubs with massive budgets to train and develop world class talent.

An investigative panel has recommended the prosecution of three top officials after it discovered that over 15 billion Naira was siphoned from the coffers of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The panel has delivered a most damning report on the financial management at the NFF, describing it as “a massive fraud where government funds and FIFA grants were freely spent without recourse to any accounting practices”.

It was scooped that one of the accused officials used his company to steal sponsorship revenue, while another used his relative to warehouse huge sums of cash away from the prying eyes of the government. An insider informed SCORENigeria: “This was the most brazen stealing ever witnessed at the NFF. “Monies from both government, FIFA and even CAF were used freely without proper retirement. “Revenues from sponsorship were siphoned, government was paying for work not done as per ‘double budgeting’, capital expenditure was not utilised.

“They will be prosecuted on these very weighty allegations.”

NFF Corruption Probe Begins
This past week, EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu gave firm assurances the anti-graft agency will bring to book the culprits.
The probe was instituted on the back of a petition by former NFF technical director James Peters.
In the petition, Peters who coached various national teams and led them to notable victories and also served as technical director with the Nigeria Football Federation for many years, urged the EFCC to carry out a thorough investigation on an alleged “unprecedented stealing, corrupt practices and financial crimes being perpetrated by Amaju Pinnick; the General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi; the 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwumi; the 2nd Vice President Shehu Dikko and a member of the executive committee, Ahmed Yusuf (AKA Fresh).

I feel I need to put this report in some perspectives... As I always argue here, corruption happens everywhere in the world. Nigeria is not unique in this respect. I have been reading about Corruption In Brazil, Italy Ghana, England, Germany etc, etc since I was a kid.

This is a story about Croatia before they world cup where they placed 2nd !!

Croatian police swoop on FA chief and Dinamo Zagreb bosses in corruption probe
27th April 2016

By Andrew Warshaw and Mark Baber

April 27 – Croatia’s anti-corruption authorities say they have charged three current and former officials from 17-time champions Dinamo Zagreb with tax evasion and siphoning off profits from player transfers – including a senior Croatian FA official who Insideworldfootball has discovered is a member of a leading FIFA trouble-shooting body.
The three – as well as a tax official charged with helping – were identified only by their initials in an online statement, in line with usual Croatian police practice, but have been charged with embezzling the equivalent of €15 million of the club’s money since 2008 and not paying €1.6m in state taxes.

State television named them as former Dinamo chief executive Zdravko Mamic; his brother Zoran Mamic who is the current Dinamo coach; and, more alarmingly perhaps, Damir Vrbanovic, executive director at the Croatian FA and former Dinamo executive who is also listed on Fifa’s website as a member of its Dispute Resolution Chamber.
Zdravko Mamic resigned his position in Dinamo in February saying he wanted to secure a stable future for the club. He denies any wrongdoing.

Croatian media claim the brothers are also suspected of siphoning off, through companies registered abroad, undeclared commission fees from the sale of several Dinamo players to foreign clubs, including former Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandzukic, who now plays for Juventus.

The arrests came as Dinamo Zagreb celebrated its ‘105th birthday’ (or to be more precise the anniversary of the formation of HSK Gradanski which was dissolved as an entity in 1945 because of its collaboration with the wartime fascist authorities) – a celebration which is itself part of a widespread movement to rewrite history, destroy Croatia’s anti-fascist identity and rehabilitate the German-allied fascist Ustase.

Whilst the defendants deny any of the charges laid against them, Dinamo Zagreb itself is aiming to win its 11th consecutive Croatian league title – currently four points clear at the tip of the table with three games to play.
Croatian football is in rather less healthy state than its top club – with widespread controversy over anti-semitic and ultra-nationalist chanting at games which led the Simon Wiesenthal director for Eastern European Affairs Dr. Efraim Zuroff to comment after the recent game against Israel that, “Chants of Za dom spremni (Ready for the homeland) and Mi Hrvati! Ustasha, Ustasha! (We Croatians! Ustasha, Ustasha!) clearly express support for a country whose government organized the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of its minorities and political opponents.

“The fact that no one sought to stop these chants or take any measures against those shouting them, including Prime Minister [Tihomir] Oreškovic, or any of the Croatian ministers or officials of the Croatian Football Association, constitutes a badge of shame for Croatia.”

You just never know what or who to believe in Nigeria.

Just a few days ago Pinnick gave a very in-depth interview and one of the things he touched upon was the inherited corruption in the NFF that drove Adidas away and stuff he "couldn't talk about in public".
Now someone is accusing him and his colleagues of stealing N15b.

I very much doubt that if he truly had such a huge skeleton in his closet he would still be talking openly about historical corruption in the NFF, unprompted.

It doesn't add up.
But this is Nigeria.

Fake news planted by Pinnick's enemies. I doubt if the NFF have N15 billion. Scorenigeria is pro Giwa and any news they publish on the NFF crisis should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Damunk, most politicians have something to hide but it never stops them from painting a saintly picture of of their lives. Nyantekyi is on record promising cash reward for anyone who brings verifiable proof of corruption in football. We also know those in the football business up to FIFA level are low down corrupt mofo's.
I'm willing to bet 1Naira's life that egghead is a saint :sneaky:

One thing Pinnick was smart to do when he took office was to engage the accounting firm (Price Waterhouse), as the NFF's account managers, primarily to ensure that funds were being managed above board.
Like someone pointed out earlier, I think this is nothing short of FAKE NEWS and is a last ditch effort on the eve of the NFF elections to ensure Pinnick was not re-elected.

NFF ready for EFCC investigation, says board
By Christian Okpara, St. Petersburg, Russia

The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) headed by Amaju Pinnick yesterday said it was ready to face the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) investigations, which has allegedly been bandied by some people allegedly working to install Plateau State-born Chris Giwa as the new president of the NFF.

In a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday, the NFF denied any wrong doing in the discharge of its duties, saying all the allegations contained in a petition authored by Mr. James Peters, a football coach, was baseless.

The statement signed by a member of the board, Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, said it is on record that the NFF under Pinnick has been the most successful in Nigeria’s recent history in terms of accountability and probity, adding, “Till date, the leadership of the NFF has not been invited by any anti-corruption or indeed, any agency of government to explain the allegations contained in the said petition or even called upon to give an account of its stewardship.”

It said the federation would cooperate fully with any agency investigating its financial activities, adding that the “NFF has entrenched transparency and international best practices as its mantra and has therefore not contravene the laws of the land.”

The statement noted that the Financial Derivatives Ltd (FDC), which was wrongly labelled by James Peters, who does not have any financial or business management training, as the conduit with which the NFF siphoned money, is one of the major and most credible financial services companies in Nigeria with records of high reputations and integrity. It added that the “FDC was not appointed as NFF Financial Advisers by Amaju Pinnick as alleged by the Petitioner but by the NFF Congress, the supreme legislative body of the NFF, pursuant to the provisions of the NFF statutes, at its 70th yearly General Meeting held in Lagos on November 23rd, 2014. In addition to the FDC, two other companies were also appointed at the 70th AGM on November 23rd 2014 – they are PricewaterHouseCoopers (PWC) as External Auditors and Bain and Co, as Management Consultants.

“These appointments were made on the recommendations of the Executive Committee and with the sole objective to bring in world class professionalism, transparency, integrity and international best practices especially in financial management of the NFF. FDC has been working for the NFF since 2014 with due audited accounts prepared yearly as required by Law, thus one wonders how FDC has suddenly become an issue of petition in 2018.”

On the funds sourced from the private sector, the NFF said, “It must be put on record that funds from sponsors are not NFF revenues to be paid to revenue accounts, but operational funds provided by sponsors for specific purposes such as payments for coaches, competitions, events and other developmental programmes as agreed with the sponsors in each case. The sponsors are fully in control and fully aware of how and when their funds are being applied and for what purpose.”

“In addition to the above process, the NFF leadership ensured that at any time it received funds from sponsors, FIFA or CAF, an information Memo is duly sent to the Hon. Minister of Sports to notify the Government of the receipts of the funds, where the funds are domiciled (TSA or Remittal or FDC) and how it is going to be applied, including payment due to any marketing agency. Indeed, the Minister has praised and or defended the NFF several times before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for this show of transparency, as it’s the first regime of the NFF to duly notify Government of all its sources of funding, receipts and application. There are several representations to the Government (Ministry of Finance and Accountant-General’s Office) by NFF, duly supported by the Hon. Minister of Sports, and National Assembly to completely exempt the NFF from the TSA. It is in recognition of this demand, that even the NFF Bill already passed by the two chambers of the National Assembly and awaiting transmittal to the President/Commander-In-Chief for assent, duly made provisions to exempt the NFF from TSA. In any case, NFF still uses the TSA for its Government subventions and funds from donor agencies like FIFA and CAF even though both FIFA and CAF, arising from the 2016 FIFA process review programme have written to demand separate account be opened for their funds in commercial banks so they can audit and track their funds early.

It also denied the claim by James Peters that Mediterranean Sports Ltd (MSL) belongs to the NFF Vice president, Shehu Dikko, saying “MSL is a sports promotion company founded in 2004 and was even affiliated to NFF in 2005 (10 years before Mallam Dikko became an NFF Exco Member), when it promoted the Abuja Corporate Football League to which NFF (NFA) was a participant.”

According to the statement, the NFF has four marketing partners, including Mediterranean Sports, Padmozi, Hotsports and USP. “The agents are paid agreed 20 per cent fees after providing value added services to the NFF.

“On the issue of paying 40 per cent commission to any agency as alluded in the said petition and put out in the Media release, this is totally untrue and deliberately put out to make the fictitious claims by the Petitioner look real. NFF pays only a maximum of 20 per cent in line with international best practices. It is on record that, the Ministry of Sports, when it hired an agency to organise the Fund-Raising Dinner for the Super Eagles 2018 World Cup participation, approved 30 per cent fee for the marketing agency and even gave it the right to collect the donated funds directly into its account. The Ministry of Sports even requested the NFF (Marketing Committee) to assist and guide the agency to ensure they deliver a professional project, which included vetting the MOU between them and Ministry to ensure no conflict with NFF events and or sponsors. The NFF duly complied and the Fund Raising was a success. Thus, unknown to the petitioner, the issue of payment of fees depends on what is agreed between the parties based on the nature of the project and work to be done.”

Well during election period, truths and falsehood tend to show up. Let the state apparatus do their job. If it's false then those responsible should be punished.
