The above table is wrong. Insurance got 23 points NOT 24 points. Its match against J.C Atete was abandoned last week and it would be replayed this Thursday. At the point that it was abandoned, the scoreline was 0-0

Not yet...but very close if there is (a) no "wuru wuru" and match-fixing on the part of these teams - Spartans, Gateway, J.C Atete and Insurance in the remaining games, and (b) no change of rules on the part of the league management committee.

All things being equal, the top 2 teams in each of 4 groups will move on to play "Super 8" where the top 4 teams will be promoted to the premier league. There are some speculations that only two teams might be promoted, given the bottom teams in the NPL were not relegated this year as a result of the Giwa-Pinnick war that disrupted the league session. At the moment, the official word is 4 teams.

NNL :Deputy Gov To Lead Insurance Attack Against 3SC

BENIN CITY – History is about to be made in the Nigeria national League as Bendel Insurance football Club of Benin is set to take on their arch rivals, 3SC of Ibadan with the host team concluding plans to feed their chairman and Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu.

According to the media officer of the Benin Arsenal, Kehinde Osagiede, the athletic Deputy Governor who is à registered player of the club with jersey No. 40 has regularly been training with the other players of the club hoping to be featured before end of the current season. His training has been a great moral booster to his “colleague players”.

Observersports was reliably informed that the sports loving Deputy Governor has passed fitness test and therefore fit into the game plan against the ShootingStars, this week-end.

Comrade Shaibu who has been outstandingly supportive to the club since his assumption of office, if eventually featured in the match tomorrow, he will be making history as the first serving Deputy Governor to have featured in a competitive football match in the country.

He would be pairing with Jnr Osaghae and Ugwu in the attack as he has always enjoyed playing striking role even in his playing days with his former club, Julius Berger FC in Abuja.

Insurance currently occupy second position on the league table in group B1 while their visitors top the table ,but have played more matches than Insurance who have outstanding match against J. Atete which has been rescheduled for 25th of this month .

The Saturday League game billed for the University of Benin Sports Complex is described by football followers as the star match of the week that will define the status of both teams as the League season draws to an end.

Both teams played draw in Ibadan when Insurance visited in the first round in Ibadan early in the season and will want to take home advantage to get the maximum points they need to finish top of the table and possibly gain promotion to the elite football division.https://nigerianobservernews.com/2018/1 ... ainst-3sc/

Even worse for shooting
foe Insurers 23 and 24 are same
they need 2 wins like Gateway
If lucky they get a result in the replay

Twice now 3sc's last game against Insurance has been postponed on the request of Bendel Insurance.
Very "dramatic" background works by Insurance to get promotion at all cost. The antics
is really sad....Managed to pull one on J.C Atete to secure its only and first away win last Thursday.

From the look of things, the game might not hold again this Wednesday....If the game is not played tomorrow,
that would be the 3rd time that it has been shifted.

The game did not hold today due to food poison incident in the camp of 3SC. Several players, according to memo received.
Please do note that the food poison seems to have happened in Ibadan. There is no clear information on this...

3SC players hit with food poisoning, 22 hospitalised

The Nigeria National League Group B1 between Shooting Stars and Bendel Insurance in Benin has been postponed indefinitely by the management of the league after 3SC players were struck down with stomach illnesses ahead of the clash.

Team manager of 3SC, Dimeji Lawal, who confirmed the development, said the players had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Ibadan. He said 22 players were affected by the illnesses suspected to have been contacted after their dinner on Tuesday night.

Shooting Stars and Insurance are fighting for their group’s first position and perhaps automatic promotion to the Premier League if the play-off is dropped as qualification route. While it is 3SC’s last game of the season, Insurance still have a game to play. Shooting Stars lead with 28 points while Insurance have 26.

According to Lawal, 3SC were preparing for the match when the players began to complain of stomach discomfort after their meals.

The Saudi ’89 FIFA U20 World Cup silver medallist told one of our correspondents, “After tests by our medical team, it was confirmed that they had contacted food poisoning. We alerted the NNL and we were told that the match had been postponed indefinitely. Medical reports from our doctor will be considered before a new date will be announced.

“We have a bright hope of clinching qualification to the Premier League. We are leading the group with two points ahead of Insurance. Normally, we have both qualified for the play-off but you may not know. The play-off may be cancelled. That is why we must take the match seriously.”

One of our correspondents learnt that the players were rushed to the Ring Road State Hospital after they developed stomach upset after eating.

In a letter, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr Olufemi Adesanya confirmed that 3SC players were brought to the hospital.

“It has become imperative to intimate you about the treatment 21 players of the Shooting Stars that were seen up till about 11pm yesterday (Monday) in our Casualty Ward,” the letter read.

“The medical records showed that 21 of them had gastroenteritis out of food poisoning and were placed on treatment. A follow-up will be essential medically.”

Spokesman for the NNL, Amar Ignis, said, “A new date for the match will be announced in due course. All officials have been duly informed. It is a Week 17 match and it was earlier scheduled for October 20 but shifted to October 28 and another development caused it to be moved again to Wednesday before this new development.”
