Re: Tottenham 0 - man united 1 Rashford
So defending is not about buying defenders right... Or is it the defenders who win the ball back immediately. The central defence the special fraud bitched about has been decent, look at Liendolof that was looking like a bad buy putting in fantastic shift, his ball play eye-catching... Even calamity Jones now is looking solid, and let us hope when Bailey comes back he will stop smoking Viagra and play with common sense using his head and not just raw power everytime. A team needs time together to play well, players need consistent run out and played to their strength. Of course the team can be strengthened but the the team was not so bad as to descend into the farce that was witnessed.benteke wrote:But with Van Gaal also, De Gea was always man of the match.oloye wrote:The problem here is not about having 4 defenders, it is about where they are positioned with regards to the offence that is launched against them. When Spurs lost the ball that resulted in the goal, they were comfortable until Rashford scored. Like they say the best form of defence is attack, the reason why Man City look formidable is not because they have better defenders but because they don't give the opponents the ball to attack them, ditto Barca and all the great teams that know how to keep possession. Like I have stated you are a United fan, why did you guys rate Schmeichel, VVD so highly?tfco wrote:oloye, you are wrongoloye wrote:Maybe you should have parked the bus. Your team was careless with the ball losing possession against an attacking team like Spurs, your defence will surely come under pressure. There was a case in time when Pogba and hia group decided to play around, lost the ball and the team nearly conceded. There is no defence that can stop stupid and childish loss of possession. Your keeper making saves is part of having a good defence, Van De Sar, Schmeichel all have had to stand tall to make United champions. Check the history of your club when they did not have good keepers.benteke wrote:I don't like that De Gea still has to make so many spectacular saves and i don't like seeing him being man of the match anymore, that Man U defence needs a lot of work be it tactics or whatever I have no clue, bit it looks like it needs work
Go and recruit all the defenders and play like you did today losing the ball carelessly and see if the keeper won't be called upon to make saves.
the midfielders (read Pogba) were losing the ball. Before the ball gets to DDG, there are 4 defenders.
DDG winning MOTM is not a good sign for the back 4.
14 saves v Arsenal last season. Pogba got a red card, so that's understandable
11 saves today v a team that played on Tuesday. Not good. Not good at all
Please don't bring last year into this, any team coached by Jose always have the keepers or defenders as the MOM
The amount of chances Spurs was getting is a cause for concern and tfco is right to point out he Arsenal fake with 14 De Gea saves.
I rather De Gea has quieter games in the big matches.
And in Pep's teams, everyone has to work extremely hard without the ball to win it back, even the striker is expected to defend from the front everyone carries their weight, so it's not all about attack and keeping the ball away, they win it back as soon as they lose it, that's their first line of defending
Keepers have been winning Mom, it does not mean the defence is bad, it simply means the keeper did his own job well.

Just like the Arsenal away win under Jose where De Gea made 14 spectacular saves, the win feels good but these saves leave me worried, they are too many for one game especially one half, something doesn't feel right about the defence to me, i prefer to see less of De Gea, one or two big saves a game is enough for us to still recognize that he is one of the best ever.
Re: Tottenham 0 - man united 1 Rashford
Good game, real good game from United. Our defense stepped up and shooting angles were extremely narrow which made it easy for DD to see where shots were coming from. We worked like a unit.

Re: Tottenham 0 - man united 1 Rashford
Mike Dean is a nut.
Miracle Dave and Pogba will get all the headlines as usual. However I think Andrew Smith was the low-key MOTM. He did an excellent water-carrier job in midfield with crisp passing, tenacious harrying, blocks, clearances, and interceptions. One of his best performances for Man Utd. Hope all these rumours about him going back to Bilbao are not true.

It shouldn't concern you much, honestly. As good as United has been in 5 of the last 6 games (the players were horrid vs. Reading), you have to understand that this is a new coach, new tactics, new approach. The players are still learning. Also, while they have a new coach and new tactics, they have the same players. Its not like a transplant.. it takes time to adapt to a new tactic. And lets be honest, as good as Shaw, Young and Jones have been, they wouldnt get into the Tottenham first 11. Lindelof probably wouldnt bench a fit Vertongen.benteke wrote:OK let me go back to my original point of concern.oloye wrote: So defending is not about buying defenders right... Then, there are also other things to consider.
1. You played Tottenham. One of the best teams in the league.
2. Tottenham is one of the fittest teams in the league, if not the fittest.
3. United played Tottenham, AWAY! What did you expect? United will go to Tottenham's home and dominate for 90 minutes?
4. Tottenham has been in fantastic form, smashing teams.

DDG winning MOM is not a good thing for me.
Look at Pool, when was the last time Allison won MOM? Since they splurged on VVD, look at their GA column
DDG has Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Lindelof, Young, Shaw
Van de Saar and Schmeichel had way better defenders, that's not even up for debate

Re: Graeme Souness wanted Pogba sent off!
He is correct though. Look at the challenge. Studs on Alli's thigh. If that was the other way round, I would have no complaints if Dele saw red.
Dele's yellow was for intentional fouling Pogba on a breakaway not a dangerous one on the player.
At the end of the day, the media has decided their story line. We will wait for our next match. We owe United something. Thanks for reminding us.

If we can give Jones, bailly and Lindelof a run of games, can you imagine that they could actually improve? yes a new CD will be nice but i dont think it was as bad as playing Mctomminay or Matic in defence, Mourinho wanted to prove to the board how bad things were, even trying to sabotage the team in that process
United were never going to dominate Spurs at home, i will not expect Spurs to come old trafford anymore and dominate us, that is a thing of the past, or sadly the Mourinho era where every tom, d#$% and harry team thought they had a chance against us, what is important is respect! i believe that is back, let any team come to our back yard and think they can outplay us from now on, in fact, let brighton try that this weekend
Looking forward to another game this weekend, almost fun to anticipate how we will play, The dark days of Mourinho are well and truly over!

With all the (deserved) praise on DDG, people seem to forget:
1) Lloris made the best save of the game (to deny Pogba). At that stage 2-0 would have had Man Utd home and dry with loads of time left.
2) Lloris made 2 crucial saves from Pogba in the 2H and another with his feet to deny Martial in the 1H.
3) Andrew Smith and Shaw put in excellent shifts for the team.

it was a very mini-deflection and he was diving in that direction anyway

I believe as well, there was that high ball Pogba tried to lift over Lloris who was quick to react, that game was made for Martial to thrive and as someone pointed out, should have got on the score sheet, i feel spurs were there for the taking in the 1st half, we could have been 2 up, if that was the case, the 2nd half would have opened them even more, If Sanchez was fit, i would have swapped martial with him, Lukaku is too static for the type of football OGS is trying to play, Interms of creating chances, we ceetainly did, Lingard had a fantastic opportunity but fluffed his chance but it was nice to see us creating chances against top opposition, liverpool game, we only had 3 shots on target!wiseone wrote:With all the (deserved) praise on DDG, people seem to forget:
