MLS Side Montreal Impact Loan In FIFA U17 World Cup Winner Okoronkwo
February 12, 2019

Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact confirmed via their official website on Tuesday that they have completed the loan signing of promising Bologna striker Orji Okonkwo.

The 21-year-old will remain at Montreal Impact until the end of the 2019 season, subject to receiving his international transfer certificate, his visa, and passing his medical.

Okonkwo has scored 3 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for Bologna since his debut and spent the second half of last season on loan at Brescia.

Commenting on the deal, Impact head coach Rémi Garde said : ''I’m satisfied in welcoming another striker to the team.

''Orji Okwonkwo is a young player scouted by Bologna three years ago who will help reinforce the team offensively.

''He’s a strong and quick forward who has an interesting margin of progression. I would like to welcome him to the team.''

Okonkwo helped the Golden Eaglets to win the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile, playing five matches and scoring once in the semifinal vs Mexico.

[Abeg, who knows the correct spelling of Orji's surname? Enugu II, abeg.]

The Montreal Impact may have just swapped presidents, with owner Joey Saputo handing the reins over to Kevin Gilmore, but the MLS club’s owner is still the chairman of Bologna and the clubs will again be sharing resources.

And if the latest move goes as well as some of the previous ones, well, look out.

Orji Okwonkwo is joining the Impact on loan, reunited with teammate Saphir Taidir. The Algerian was one of the stars of a Montreal season like Blerim Dzemaili and Marco Di Vaio before him.

Okwonkwo, 21, won the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2015, scoring in the semifinal win over Mexico.

He’d sign for Bologna, and was seemingly on the brink of stardom after scoring three Serie A goals in 10 appearances last season.
