Dammy,

As you mention "white boots" it reminded me of an outburst from Chikelue Iloenyosi after George Weah had taken him (Iloenyosi) to the cleaners in a WC qualifier in Monrovia against Liberia. He told the media that Bonfrere had insulted him by saying that instead of stopping Weah, he (Ilenyosi) was out there admiring Weah's boots.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

That CIV team was actually one of the best teams ..we finished level on points during the worldcup qualifiers....I remember the 1st leg we lost and sss refused to pass to yekini, that's when he lost his shirt, and Amo became Yekini's support striker..later sss was moved to midfield...

they also gave us a hard time during the ANC...that Bassole of a guy was terrorizing us. Thankfully Iroha and Okocha combined for that beautiful goal. I think we eliminated them on PKs?

Yep. We did eliminate them on penalties. They were a fantastic team and unlucky on the day. Bassole was pure terror. Yekini almost cost us that ANC with his misses, like he cost us in the WC.

One wonders what would have happened with the Ivorian team if Oumar Ben Salah had not been arrested in France prior to the end of their world cup qualifying campaign. I think it was rather unfortunate for Africa that we both had to be in the same qualifying group for the 1994 WC because this team would have definitely made some noise if they had made it to the tourney.

dunno about that though. Ivoriens frequently carry loaded teams, only to flatter to deceive. I remember their 2006 WC team..... :veryangry: :veryangry: :veryangry:

...but they nearly beat us if not for the brilliance defender Iroha and winger Finidi feeding Yekini, then the pk shootout, a thunderous last one from Yekini sealed the win.
At final Zambia with replacement side nearly shocked us again, until Amunike did double trick. Great time to be a Nigerian.

Abdoulaye Traore was wounded by Benedict Iroha. It was difficult to tell whether he did it on purpose or not. However, Tiehi Joel was hurt before the gain. He could not take it anymore and was taken out on a stretcher in the second half. NOBODY TOUCHED HIM!!!

Cheers!
