It is indeed mind boggling. All the data indicate that this link just does not exist or is so minor that it is insignificant. At the U17 level, the link is almost zero i.e. winning the U17 is not linked to winning at the most senior level (in terms of trophies or even becoming a dominant senior team), there is a better fit btw winning at U20 and the seniors but even that is hardly a significant link. Yet, there continues to be the illogical thinking that the link should exist. What is ignored is that there are too many variables that prevent such a link, including variations in youth maturity and interest.

In fact, this is the reason why I argue that the use of old players at U17 for Nigeria, which supposedly prevents the link in Nigeria, should be re-thought in its entirety. It makes more sense to argue that the use of older players at the U17 in Nigeria should actually provide a better link at the senior levels!

They have I think, many college and prep teams have Senegalese kids on their teams.
