Rohr Rules Ekong Out Of Super Eagles Friendly Game Against Zimbabwe, Iwobi Yet To Arrive Camp
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2019/06/04/ro ... rive-camp/
June 4, 2019082

Udinese of Italy defender William Troost-Ekong will play no part in the Super Eagles Friendly game against Zimbabwe according to coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Ekong will according to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com arrive the camp of the team tomorrow but he won’t be able to play as he is still recovering from the injury he suffered while on club duty.

” He won’t make it for the friendly game against Zimbabwe. We expect him to arrive soon but he won’t be ready for the game on Saturday”, Rohr said in Asaba.

Meanwhile Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi is yet to arrive the camp of the team as at the time of filing in this report following his involvement in the Europa League final, where he scored the lone goal for Arsenal in their 1-4 loss to Chelsea in the final.

Iwobi was handed an extended break and he is due to join the team in Egypt for the Cup of Nations although fellow absentees like Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi will arrive camp tomorrow.

Super Eagles Training Report : Iheanacho Surprise Inclusion In Top Five Performers

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been training in Asaba ahead of their participation at the next Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and Owngoalnigeria.com picks five players who have so far impressed in the three sessions the team have had so far.

1. Victor Osimhen – He has carried his form from Belgium to the camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. In the three training sessions the team have had so far, the forward has maintained his sharpness level which is the highest among the strikers in the camp of the team.

2. Moses Simon – No doubt he is fired up for this one. The way he was gliding past his markers with ease was the main highlight of his game during the session. He took it a step forward with his pin point delivery when in space and even in tight spaces.

3. Samuel Chukwueze – No way is he not going to make the squad for AFCON 2019. He was not just sharp and lively but also very decisive with the ball at his feet. Another side of his game he appears to have worked on is defending as he won so many balls for his team.

4. Leon Balogun – Despite his limited game time at Brighton and Hove Albion he looked very fit and sharp. During the session he got his interceptions and tackles right and didn’t tire out as expected. The personal training he had has kept him in shape for this.

5. Kelechi Iheanacho – Many criticised his inclusion in the squad of players for the tournament, no thanks to his poor form and lack of game time at English Premier League side Leicester City. That appears to have zero effect on his performance as he was very clinical during the shooting drills and the 5-aside game they played. He scored with almost all of his efforts.

The editor is in Moses Simon's pocket. He had a go at me online for suggesting younger players like Kalu and Chukwueze are ahead of Simon in the SE pecking order.

Players that are reported to dazzle in training seem to be average at best come game day. It's almost like a pre match curse to be reported to shine in training by Nigerian media.

How Super Eagles Defenders Are Performing In Training – Jamilu Collins, Awaziem & Aina In Focus
June 5, 201901
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2019/06/05/ho ... -in-focus/

Image
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have had six different training session since the start of preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which will take place in Egypt later this year.

Owngoalnigeria.com runs the rule on the defenders of the team and how they’ve performed so far in the sessions witnessed by our correspondent.

Jamilu Collins – He has banished the ghost of Elderson Echjiele in the Super Eagles by making the left back slot his own. So far he has looked the part with his deliveries from crosses, confidence on the ball and assured in tackles.

Ola Aina – He only returned to training today after missing two sessions but his class is there for all to see. Didn’t lose a single duel, picked out his man with ease and his awareness appears to have increased a bit probably due to the run of games he had in Italy where he spent the season on loan at Torino from Chelsea.

Chidozie Awaziem – A bit too hard when going into tackles but solid with the ball at his feet. He is about the best in aerial duels and made life difficult for the forwards who were up against him during the session.

Leon Balogun – His calm and confidence on the ball is second to none. Reads and intercept play with ease and also like to pass from the back where he has excelled so far. Missed today’s session but generally he is among the top performers in the team.

Semi Ajayi – Solid in aerial duels but not so convincing with the ball at his feet. Guilty of giving away possession cheaply, he has also been found wanting when it comes to making tackles but his reading of play and interceptions has been spot on.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. Man, Onuachu is a giant. Makes Ogu look tiny. I would hate to have to defend against that guy.

i played against some tall Scottish players a while back.. let just say kick and follow did work, they kept whipping it forward, one tall striker knocks it down goal.. we lost 4-3... so whenever they did such , i just backed up and read the header.. this helped, by then , we were chasing the game

Ezenwa Battling To Be Fit For AFCON 2019 After Injury In Training – Rohr Confirms
June 6, 2019016
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2019/06/06/ez ... -confirms/

Ikechukwu Ezenwa is in a race against time to be fit for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after missing yesterday’s training session of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.

Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzoho are the three goalkeepers in camp with Enyimba shot stopper Theophilus Afelokhai on standby in the list of players released by coach Gernot Rohr for the 2019 AFCON.

Yesterday Rohr confirmed that Ezenwa picked up an injury and will be examined in the coming days to ascertain the extent to which he is injured before a decision will be taken on his spot in the team.

He didn’t take part in any form of training yesterday and he also miss today’s session based on what Rohr said after yesterday’s training although he didn’t mention the nature of the injury Ezenwa is suffering from.

If scans shows he won’t be available, Afelokhai of Enyimba will be called up as his replacement and the shot stopper is presently in Lagos taking part in the LMC/NPFL Championship Play offs.
