Official player ranking and Stats (Nig v Algeria)

First, my opinion:

1. Rohr converted SE to playing attacking and direct football. Anytime the eagles had the ball, they tried to focus directly at the opponents goal and get the ball their as quick as possible. He also tried to organize the side but 2 things.
- The team had not perfected his new style hence alot of times, they looked disjointed and uninspriing.
- Hear Rohr "It [the Afcon] is operated on with long balls and then pressing, it's a different style of play, there are more surprise effects compared to the World Cup.” My question is, must we play the same type of football like them? Cant we be different? You see Akpeyi thump the ball forward from the back and then we try to win the second ball, it makes for ugly football.

2. Rohr lost the tactical battle to the Algerian coach. Firstly, he admited that his wingers were locked off and the Algerian coach said he's plan was to cut of our wingers. So is Rohr saying the only way into the opponents goal is the wing? Thats one dimensionsal.

3. Again, the Algerian coach had another upper hand against Rohr. When the game started, the Eagles were defending deep (the CDs and the Algerians started piling pressure. After about 10mins or so, ROhr started passing instructions to them to press high. What this meant was that the Defenders moved higher upfield and like the Algerian coach said, NIgerian CDs are slow hence he exploited their lack of speed.

4. I advocated for Rohr to be fired if he doesnt get to the Semi finals. He has and he should be kept on. Its the semi-finals, only the most in form, and the luckiest make it to the Semi and from there, anything goes. All semifinalists are winners.

Rohr has brought serious organization to the team, brought alot more pride to wearing the shirt, elimiated hey yous, showed high level of coaching like scouting opponents, giving players information about opponents players, brought in tacticality and strategy etc. He has built a team. Now he needs to perfect our style of play. To this end, we need a technical committee that knows its onions whose job would not be to indulge in teamlist, but work with the coaches to define style of play, look for ways of enhancing players performance, get involved with introducing innovation, science and tech of football, etc. THis is where we need people like Emenalo and not Chris Green.

We also need to appoint an assistant to Rohr, who is a Nigerian and who can seamlessly takeover from him in 2yrs or after the world cup. This coach must be tactically superior to Rohr.

5. From the stats for the game, it was fairly balanced. Ive watched this match 3 times devoid of sentiments and with a more ciritcal look. Mahrez said the game against Nigeria was the hardest. Nigeria had more possession than Algeria (All through the tourney, Tunisia has always had far higher possession stats except against senegal).

The eagles had:
*More shots at goal
*More shots on target
*Higher possesion
*more corner kicks
*equal shots inside the box
*more passes
*More accurate passes
*less big chance created
*dispossessed less

6. Chukwueze was curtailed. He managed 4 dribble attempts but all was unsuccesful. 3 Key passes (top). Iwobi had 2 key passes, was dispossessed twice with 74% pass accuracy. Etebo had 82% pass accuracy (Collins and Omeruo with 85/83%), 10 duels with 70% success.

7. None of these AFCON teams would go past the 2nd round of the WC.

Thanks but no thanks. Sorry to sound off.

We won our last ANC with hey yous. If you think this is an improvement over our World Cup team of last year, then you are as deluded as John 13.

By now, we should be dominating the continent and expecting a last 4 finish at any intercontinental competition.

Rohr is tactically deficient and apart from the much ackowledged backroom gains, there is nothing to celebrate where it matters most - THE GREEN GRASS!!
