I knew he played for Nigeria but wasn't aware he ended up with 33 caps from the mid 80s to the 90s. He said it would have been double in this day and age with more international games played.
He was full of gist of about his time at Rangers and we yabbed him mercilessly for going to Nike Grammar School. He said they used to see CIC as for "ajebutters" and children of rich men.
I was shocked to find out that his teammate for Nigeria and Rangers, who also played for Abiola Babes, Louis "Commander" Igwilo, is now a "dibia" (native doctor) in his village of Oghe, Enugu State. Charles said Commander was known to be involved in juju as a player.
He now lives in Hemel Hempstead and said his son plays for Stevenage FC. I presume their youth team.
Charles and the l charate Sam Okwaraji.
Come on bro, they were drinking so its understandable how 1 could turn to 3, and 10 to 33. Lol.

Loosely and inadvertently wearing the badge of drinking honor is an obvious indicator and a consistent language pattern among that population. Normalization of the abnormal is definitely present in his world view whether he admits it or not. Nonetheless this is not about labeling i rather know that we are raising these awareness amongst ourselves. amazing how many people don't realize 'drinking' is a problem
make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.

A lunatic pointing at someone who drinks is like an armed robber calling someone with a traffic violation a crook.jette1 wrote:

Charles Okonkwo was a personal favourite of mine, I loved his wholehearted style of play and saw him play for Rangers away at Onikan Stadium (ACB) and Ogbe stadium (Flash Flamingoes). You could guarantee that with less than 5 minutes of play gone, his jersey would already have been dirty.
I remember once reading about a Rangers match against NNB in Enugu where he and Bright Omokaro were sent off. I couldn't understand how anyone in their right mind could get involved with aggro against a certified lunatic like Bright. Apparently he slapped Bright and ran off and Bright chased after him and slapped him back before they started fighting and eventually got sent off.
I don't think he played more than 5 times for the Super Eagles then but boy could we do with someone like him now. He chased after every ball and never allowed defenders to settle.
He was a wonderful player to watch.
Commander Igwilo is still loved in Abeokuta, another player that ran the midfield and played his own game regardless of what was happening around him. Commander would have also walked into this present Eagles team.

Re: Charles Okonkwo
Aswani, good stuff. Charles was a "gra-gra" player, who made up with effort what he lacked in talent. I told him that he came at the wrong time and would have fitted well in English football. You are right about Commander as a midfield general, although I hated him for leaving Rangers for money.

That could easily be misread!
