Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed a very strong chance of him staying beyond next summer after admitting that he needs to start grooming a team that will challenge for the 2021 AFCON, AOIFootball.com reports.

The Franco-German, whose contract expires in June 2020, revealed that he isn’t bothered about the current situation but remains focused on getting the job done on the field of play.

“I have to work, the contract is not a problem. I think by the end of the year, I will discuss it with the FA. No distraction for me, but it’s time to have a new project to win the next AFCON.

“I start now with the AFCON qualifiers and don’t know if I will finish it but it’s not really a problem but our project must be made for at least 3 years because what we want to do is to also go to the next World Cup and also have a good philosophy too,” Rohr added.

The 66-year-old took over as coach in 2015 and has since guided Nigeria to a place at the 2018 World Cup, as well as a bronze medal the last AFCON in Egypt.

Guys are just stuck on auto and frankly it is a damn shame. We do not have a goalkeeper situation. Uzoho is our number one and he is currently out injured. Akpeyi and Ezenwa are the number 2 and 3 respectively. We always talk about selecting players on current form and on current form, Akpeyi deserves to be on the team.

At this point I say we keep Rohr and extend his contract , yes he's far from the Klopp or Pep type of coach we all fantasize about... but boy has it been a while since I actually enjoyed a stable, organized and drama free national team with no egos or big man complex dividing the camp.

I'll take that over camp division, poor team management, and failure to qualify for major tournaments... You don't want to be like Arsenal than play the most pointless football, and still end up losing.

JUST IN! Gernot Rohr wants to extend his contract until after Qatar 2022

https://www.brila.net/just-in-gernot-ro ... atar-2022/
Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr is reportedly hoping to extend his contract with the Nigeria football federation until at least 2023.

The Franco-German tactician disclosed this to brila.net at the camp of the Super eagles in Uyo as the team braces up preparation for the Afcon qualifiers match day 2 clash against Lesotho in Maseru.

”I will seek an extension for my contract until the end of the world cup in Qatar 2022, I want to be in charge of this team because the team is young and I see prospects and champions in the lads, ” He stated.

Rohr’s contract will expire in six months time and the Franco German wants the NFF to extends his contract for him to qualify Nigeria to the world cup in Qatar.

If the NFF is smart they will renew his contract until after Qatar 2022, and they will embed a local successor to be poised to take over afterwards.

He is 66 years old. He has not won any major trophy. The SE is probably his only job offer. This is the man the NFF want to give a contract extension to?

The NFF should look for a younger coach and give him a 4 year contract. A young coach that has good potential or a much older coach that has won something, has a proven track record of winning trophies. I have watched Rohr in two tournaments now. I saw a coach that is conservative in crucial moments. We saw it against Argentina and Croatia. We saw it against Algeria and part of the game against South Africa.
Winners do it the right way.

Please don't renew his contract. He can stay on in a director of football type role. We should scout for a coach like the Algerian coach. A younger coach with ambition that has innovative new ideas to approach the game.

After the Imama coaching debacle, I'll rather we just stick with Rohr for now until a serious coach from the local scene somehow comes along.

NFF should not give Rohr a new contract

Post by Bigpokey24 »

Let the game vs Lesotho be his send off. Amunike can be groomed and hired after the holidays. We do not have any games until march 2020. I am confident Amunike can get the best from the likes of Chuks and Vic.

We weren't impressive vs Benin....**** cannot go toe to toe vs any opposition. HE claims to be able to organize the defense, but we ship in goals...in the last 7 games the SE has only one clean sheet
