A football club based in the United States of America, Tulsa Roughnecks FC have announced the signing of three Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) stars; Mfon Udoh, Raphael Ayagwa and Solomon Kwambe ahead of the 2020 USL Championship season.

Tulsa are one of the thirty-five clubs that will be competing in the United States’ second tier football league and they made the announcement on Tuesday.

Udoh, the record topscorer in the NPFL and joint top scorer last season has joined the Oklahoma City based side from Akwa United where he has scored two league goals this term. Udoh – a winger by expertise – has played three times for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, scoring one goal.

Defensive midfielder Ayagwa has also featured for the CHAN Eagles in the past and joins Tulsa from his hometown club Lobi Stars. Ayagwa played a starring role in Plateau United’s title winning season in 2017 and has also featured prominently in Lobi’s rise to the top of the league this season, captaining the side at least eight times, including in Sunday’s 1-0 win over MFM FC.

For Kwambe, a versatile defender who can play across the back four, he also joins from Lobi Stars. Kwambe became prominent in 2012 and 2013 under then Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi and was in the Nigerian side that went to the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

The transfer of these players to Tulsa Roughnecks is subject to league and federation approval.

The 2020 USL Championship will commence on the first weekend of March, with Tulsa having an away game against Sacramento Republic FC at Papa Murphy’s Park on March 7.

The Head Coach of FC Tulsa (Tulsa Roughnecks) is Michael Nsien II. He played for the US under 17, University of Dayton and the LA Galaxy. He was on our 2003 under 23 team. He possesses the coveted UEFA A License and also has the USSF A License. He is a full-blooded Nigerian from Akwa Ibom. His Dad, is a good friend of mine. He personally sought for the three recently signed Nigerian players (Udoh, Ayagwa and Kwambe. Another Nigerian is already on the team) At only 38, the future is bright for him and for Nigerian football.
