Offloading duo and signing Samuel Chukwueze could prove outstanding Liverpool business
By Lee Clarke Published on February 13, 2020

The Daily Mail claimed this week that Liverpool had a bid of £30 million rejected for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze during the January transfer window.

It is thought that the Spaniards value the Nigerian at closer to £60 million and it will now be interesting to see if Liverpool return with an offer in the summer. Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in the 20-year-old, although Liverpool might hold the aces when it comes to doing a deal.

Despite a dominant campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s team, the German boss might choose to make some additions to his squad during the summer. Some players could depart and Adam Lallana who is out of contract will almost certainly be on his way at the end of the season. Another who could leave is Xherdan Shaqiri. The Switzerland star is reportedly valued at £25 million by Liverpool and his departure seems likely if a bid is made. If the Reds can offload Lallana and Shaqiri and sign Chukwueze it would represent quality business by the Reds. Both have struggled to impose themselves on games when called upon with just two goals scored between them this season.
Chukwueze is widely viewed as a potential star and at 20, now seems like a good time for Liverpool to increase their interest. The man with 12 caps for his country has scored four goals and claimed four assists this season and could be quality for the Reds.

The Villarreal man seems to tick all the boxes for a Klopp signing. He is young, has bags of potential and as a result, he’d fit seamlessly into a group already containing some tremendous youngsters. Chukwueze is quick, can play anywhere across the front three and boasts skills which could raise the Anfield roof. At £60 million he wouldn’t come cheap but if Shaqiri is sold for £25 million that would essentially lower the net spend on Chukwueze.
The lively performer might not be Liverpool’s priority this summer but with other Premier League clubs circling, they should pay the money and secure themselves a seriously talented future investment.
