FIFA international calendar as it relates to SE
Yesterday it was decided that the September international break will only be open for UEFA and Conembol.
UEFA nations will play 2 matches in their 2020/21 nations league, while Conembol will begin WCQ.
Competitions for AFC, CAF, concacaf, and OFC will begin in October windows, provided the Covid situation does not worsen.
They are also suggesting to have 3 matchday international breaks to make up for lost matches, and CAF will meet June 30 to decide fate of 2021 ANC and other issues.
My questions and thoughts are this.
Since competitions in Europe will commence in the september window, would we not be able to have SE play a friendly in Europe during that time ?
If the problem is that CAF, CONCACAF, AFC are not ready to begin competitions, why would SE which is entirely european based not be able to play 2 friendlies in Europe during that window ?
It would seem a waste to let that window pass and if CAF is not going to restart competitions which would be played in Africa, what stops SE from playing a friendly in Europe ?
Anybody with connections abeg forward this to those close to Rohr or NFF.
There is no reason we cannot play a friendly to try all of these new additions like Dessers, Ezibuhue, Ejaria, Ejuke, Lookman, Zaidu, Adarabioyo, and also consolidate our team.
Could we not play a friendly against a fellow African side like Senegal, CIV, Morocco, Mali, who would also have a majority of their players in Europe. Or even Japan or perhaps the USA ?
Abeg let us get on this. No time to waste.

Re: FIFA international calendar as it relates to SE
NFA is broke
SE playing a friendly in Europe during Corona time, implies no spectators
SE is not hot, so TV revenue will be minimal if not non-existant
So, more debt for a "broke" NFA?

Re: FIFA international calendar as it relates to SE
In my view, there is few reasons Nigeria would not be able to play an Europe-based friendly. In terms of playing personnel there will be no strong reason even if it means both Ezenwa and Akpeyi are not invited because of travel restrictions (I suppose). Nevertheless, the sticking point is that if stringent travel restrictions exist it may mean that critical personnel to SE (e.g. back room staff) may not be able to travel which may hinder logistics for the team. Just a thought.vancity eagle wrote:Yesterday it was decided that the September international break will only be open for UEFA and Conembol.

Well, to think of it, there may be no reason at all since back room staff can also be contracted out to Europe.

Can they please use the South American qualification model. The qualifiers should serve as both Afcon and World cup qualifications.
Winners do it the right way.

What do you mean South American qualification model? What is the model. You mean every country playing each other? If so, how do you get over 20 countries doing that? Or are you referring to some other model?ohenhen1 wrote:Can they please use the South American qualification model. The qualifiers should serve as both Afcon and World cup qualifications.

The highest 48 teams in Africa will be allowed to participate. The rest will be disqualified for this cycle. Difficult decision that had to be made because of Covid 19. 12, 4 team groups. Each group will have 3 games. Each team will play each other once at neutral sites in 2020. The top team in each group will move on to the next stage. Then in 2021 you have 12 teams. Each team will play 11 games at neutral sites. Play each other once. The top 5 teams with the most points and goals scored will qualify for the world cup. The top 24 teams will qualify for Afcon. Cancel the 2021 Afcon or move it to 2022.Enugu II wrote:What do you mean South American qualification model? What is the model. You mean every country playing each other? 10 teams in South America play each other in World cup qualification. 12 teams will play each other in CAF final round. The benefit is there will be no easy or tough group in the final round. Teams would be better prepared for the World cup after playing each other on the continent. The best teams tactically and technically will represent Africa. The teams that have depth will represent Africa. The most organized teams will represent Africa. Teams will get to play different styles. Diversity of opponents. It will test the mental toughness of teams.

Or the final round could consist of two groups of 8 and the the top 2 from each group automatically qualify and the 3rd in each group playoff for a place in the World Cup this will creat more games for the fans and less games for each individual team to play.ohenhen1 wrote:Enugu II wrote:This is why it is necessary to explain. How about final group of 16. Each team play each other once on neutral territory. That is about 15 games for each team. Top 5 qualify

Sebastian Osigwe is not national team material. And while young Adebayo Adeleye in Israel continues to warrant attention (in terms of his development) he isn't ready for the Super Eagles in my opinion.
