why not middle of next year?

They could have played 2 qualifiers in october and 2 in November to finish in time for the original schedule of Jan 2021.

CAF is a confused (dis)organization!

In 2013, CAF switched the tournament to being held in odd-numbered years so as not to clash with the FIFA World Cup.
Do they not realize we will have FIFA World Cup in 2022?

This is a very good development. It’s all about the WC qualification now, those who qualify for the WC and Afcon will play Afcon before the Wc, a major boost for African teams in term of WC prep. Let’s face it, Afcon is a waste of money, they can’t get fans in the stadium and can’t pay the teams on time. The next wc will be Africa’s strongest contingent in decades.

I agree with what you said but even African Champions have qualified to the World Cup (Nigeria twice) and turned up just for a holiday!

Perfect for my 12 or 16 team league idea. All 16 teams qualify for Afcon. 8 teams not taking part in world cup qualifications go through an Afcon qualification process. That will make it 24 teams for Afcon 2022 in the summer and then 5 teams for World cup 2022 in November

So you believe Africa would be logistically ready by to play qualifiers in October? They made the best decision under the current circumstances

Yeah, African teams really showed the rest of the world pepper in 2010 when we had the AFCON same year.
