...yes, against Ghana in the semil final, he was red-carded for fouling a Ghanaian player (Anthony Yeboah). Strangely enough, after his red card, Nigeria with one player down started pressuring the bredas. I was very surprised.

Anyway, RIP for Ajibade.

Lukemania,

I think it was Abedi Pele he took out which stopped the latter playing in the final itself and set in motion a chain of events that Ghanaian football has still not recovered from till today (i.e. Yeboah being denied the captaincy and the Kumasi and Accra divide spilling to the fore).

My brother, Abedi Pele did NOT play the final because he received two yellow cards. During the final against Ivory Coast, Anthony Baffoue (a defender who used to wear #2) captained the Black Stars.

I recall the entire game very well. Late Ajibade fouled (a vicious tackle) Anthony Yeboua (who used to play in Germany) and not Abedi Pele.

Cheers!

Fair enough Brother Lukemania, I stand corrected.

I stand corrected, not sure what happened to the text

I remember Babalade scoring a free kick for Shooting Stars in the first leg of a CAF Champions league final game against Zamalek. Shooting Stars won that game 2-1, but lost the return leg in Egypt 1-2; eventually losing on penalties
