The Nigeria Football Federation will soon announce the appointment of a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles. The announcement could be made before the impending Africa Cup of Nations billed for Cameroon in January.

The new coach, whose identity is still being kept under wraps, was recommended to Nigeria by one of the best and most popular coaches in the world, Jose Mourinho.

Sports Vanguard exclusively gathered that in his bid to get the best tactician for Nigeria, Pinnick who has never hidden his lack of confidence in Nigerian coaches, went in search of a capable hand who would replace sacked Gernot Rohr.

Our source informed that due to the backlash that followed Rohr’s poor performance with the Eagles, Pinnick didn’t want to take anything for granted, in his search for Rohr’s replacement.

“The NFF boss went as far as meeting with many respected names including the former Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho to assist him in getting a good coach for Nigeria,” our source said.

“The speed and precision with which the NFF applied in securing a new coach could not have been possible without the role played by the ‘Special One’.”

Our source said the NFF President is not leaving anything to chance in his bid to ensure Nigeria’s flag is flown in Qatar 2022. “Qualification to the 2022 World Cup is top priority for NFF president Amaju Pinnick,” he said.

Pinnick, himself said as much when he explained that Rohr was booted out to avoid a “disaster”, which will actually be failure to feature at Qatar 2022 that will guarantee millions of US Dollars to the country.

Although the new coach is expected to be named before the AFCON, he is expected to be in Cameroon as a spectator. “He is expected to have a first hand knowledge of the team from the background while interim coach Austin Eguavoen pilots the campaign for Nigeria’s fourth continental title,” our source added.

The new coach is a former Real Madrid assistant to Mourinho when he was manager at R. Madrid.

Beer parlour talk.. It doesn't even qualify for junk news status...

Even suggesting Mike Emanelo might have given it a pinch of credibility. :dream:

There might be some truth to this story. It was reported earlier that Alejandro Menéndez García applied to the SE job. So it kind of makes sense.

Pinnick please resign. Nigeria is done with Pinnick at the helm. It was Wenger who recommended Rohr. Now Mourinho want recommend? Why can't Odegbami recommend or Ammuneke recommend or Christian Chukwu? They have to go and seek another Oyimbo.. lol.. May Nigeria never have a chairman like Pinnick ever again

This is akin to someone who can't afford afford alimony to the ex-wife,
contemplating marrying a high maintenance lady.

I think klopp, Guardiola and Southgate also helped in the search before Maurinho put his stamp of approval. They're waiting for Sir Alex to approve before the name is revealed at a world press conference.

This is the dude

What happened to Jose Mourinho's long-time assistant Rui Faria after he went solo?
Jose Mourinho’s long-time assistant Rui Faria decided to go his own separate way in 2018 during the Special One's stint with Manchester United, ending their 17-year partnership

Rui Faria left his role as Manchester United assistant manager in May 2018 – but what has Jose Mourinho’s former disciple done since?

Faria spent 17 years as Mourinho’s understudy before the split, first being given a role under him as a fitness manager and analyst when Mourinho was appointed as Leiria’s manager in 2001.

The pair reached new heights together at Porto where they won the Champions League, with Faria and his methods as assistant manager being integral to their success.

The Portuguese duo went on to achieve glory at Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Man United, winning a whole host of domestic titles and European silverware.

But Faria decided to call it quits on his long-time partnership with the ‘Special One’ after their second season at Old Trafford, prompting a reshuffle which saw Michael Carrick appointed as coaching staff.

Mourinho was sacked from United a few months later before Faria took up his first head coach job with Qatari side Al-Duhail in January 2019.

Speaking to The Times in 2018, the 46-year-old explained family reasons were behind his decision to part ways with Mourinho.

Faria said: “It was not a decision I took overnight, it was a mature decision and I don’t regret it.

Why would Mourinho's assistant be an attractive option? Did Jose's teams ever play free flowing, attractive football? Or park the bus and counter? No thanks!
Bushboy's bushmen : 1.Isaac Success 2. Terem Moffi 3. Victor Boniface 4. Samuel Omorodion. 5. Samson Tijani. 6. Rafiu Durosinmi.
Who will be next?
