The Nigeria women's league body has surprisingly reverted to six-team tournament midway into the regular season
Six Nigerian Women's Premier League teams will lock horns at the Super Six tournament which will be held to decide the champion of the 2020/21 season from April 19-25 in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, FC Robo and Sunshine Queens will participate in the competition having finished in the top six of the NWPL table after 13 games.
In a statement, the NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi announced that the seven-day event will be played at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium Agege Stadium, with participating clubs expected to arrive on Sunday, 24 hours to kick-off.

The schedule also confirms that the top six clubs will play five matches each during the tournament, with three matches scheduled to take place on the opening matchday, Monday, April 19.
The second round of three matches will be held on Tuesday, April 20, and Wednesday, April 21 will be a rest day for all six clubs, while the third round of three fixtures resuming on Thursday, April 22.
The fourth round continues on Friday, April 23 before another rest on Saturday, April 24, while the final round of games of the round-robin competition, comes up on Sunday, April 25.
The decision to determine the champion and relegated teams by playoffs were announced by Aisha Falode headed by the Nigeria Women Football League, following a virtual vote by the 14 top-flight clubs.
The development became necessary as the country raced against time to submit its representatives for the Caf Women's Champions League, resolving for a Super Six and eight-team relegation play-off.
"The clubs rallied round and called for a meeting where their decisions were put to votes leading to the early conclusion of the season to enable Nigeria present representatives for the Caf Women Champions League," Falode told media.

"This has been the dream of women's football players, club owners, the media and other proponents, for so many years. The result of this is the re-emergence of the Super Six after an earlier decision to play a straight league of 13 matches over 26 weeks.
"I wish the six clubs; Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, FC Robo and Sunshine Queens, good luck as they battle for the title and tickets for the Caf Women Champions League."
Nigeria will present one team in the maiden edition of the Caf Women's Champions League, featuring in the WAFU B zonal qualifiers.

NIGERIA
The West African region will field two teams in the inaugural edition of the continent's women's club competition billed for Morocco
The Confederation of Africa Football has alloted two slots to the WAFU B zone in the maiden Caf Women's Champions League, Goal can authoritatively report.

In September, the African governing body confirmed eight clubs will take part in the final phase of the inaugural women's club competition, following its inauguration of the championship in June.
Caf had also announced that six zones will go through the qualifying playoff round to produce a team each, joining the champions of the host nation, and then the eighth team will be chosen by a wild card.

"Each of the Six Caf Zones will organize qualifiers to determine the finalists for the eight-team tournament," Caf wrote on its website.
"The breakdown is as one team from each zone, one team from the host country and one additional team. For the maiden edition, the zonal union of the host country will have two representatives.
"However, for subsequent editions, the host country will have only one representative whilst the Zonal Union of the defending champion will qualify two teams.
"The format of the competition, the eight qualified teams will be drawn into two groups of four teams each in accordance with the regulations."
However, Caf has now decided to cede the wild card to Wafu B, as the region of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations title holders, which will see the zone parade two teams in the final phase.
"The qualifiers will be organised by the 6 zones recognised in Caf statutes," Goal revealed the news from Article 12 of the Caf Women’s Champions League 2021 Regulation.
"Each zone will qualify one team to the final tournament and the zone of the team holder of the title will engage two teams (the holders of the title in addition to another team).
"For the 1st edition seeing that there is no holder of the title, the zone of the country holding the title of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations will engage two teams.

"Seven teams will qualify to the final tournament in addition to the champion team of the host country who is automatically qualified."
Nigeria will pick its representatives through a six-team championship playoff, which will be held from April 19 to 25 in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Goal had broken the news that Morocco, who are the hosts of 2020 Africa Women's Cup of Nations will also double as the host of the maiden Caf Women's Champions League this November.

Why are all the women clubs named Queens and Angels; isn’t this objectification of women ? I mean imagine if all the men teams in Nigeria are all kings etc.
make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.

"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the--if he--if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement....Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true."

As you point out, it is really ridiculous. Why could they find other names? Why must it always be Queens? Is it just a lack of creativity or objectification as you point out? In my view, it has always been a problem .

Without prejudice (because not all teams are, but there could be yet more diversity)...

But nonetheless you lot can jolly well go start your own teams and name them whatever you please...
After all, most teams in “sophisticated” England are named either United or City (with a handful of Rovers).

Nigerians, almost always furiously chasing shadows in derogation of substance.
