The good run of the Super Eagles at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations has yielded good dividends as the team is now ranked number 3 in Africa and 28 in the world.

They moved 14 steps up the ladder from their previous 42nd position. This is their best ranking since February 2008 when they ranked 19th in the world.

Morocco however still remain the highest ranked African team despite not moving beyond the Round of 16 where they were eliminated by South Africa.

The Atlas Lions moved a step upward in global ranking from 13th to 12th. The total points they have gathered over the years still weigh in their favour.

At the moment they have 1663.69 as against the 1661.69 which they had as at the last ranking in December.

Nigeria’s current point-haul stand at 1522.26 which is 141.43 behind that of Africa’s number one team. It will therefore take a while before Nigeria gets to the number one position which they last occupied in February 2008.

if we have another good run in 2025, just maybe we could get seeded at the WC 2026, the Euros and COPA will push some CAF team down, but we have so many football games this year, AFCON qualifiers, two WCQs etc

Exactly ...qualifying is not given ... at this stage, I am not putting my hopes on SE, especially Peseiro stays !!
Let's remember that South Africa too have revenge on their mind when we play them in June. It's best not to put
our hopes on us qualfying so there won't be broken hearts !!

The last poster do have a point. Given the scare South Africa gave us at AFCON, Perseiro will likely play with too much caution.. And for a team like SA, they will swam us and take advantage. The best way to play a team like that is to assert your dominance right away and pounce mercilessly score early and as many as possible in the first half. If he sets up the team to defend, forget our worldcup hopes.
