Amuneke applies to replace Peseiro as Super Eagles coach

One of those widely tipped to replace Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has applied for the top post.

The NFF Friday announced the position of the Super Eagles head coach vacant and asked for qualified candidates to apply with a deadline of Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Experienced journalist Osasu Obayiuwana confirmed on X that Amuneke informed him he has applied to be the next Super Eagles coach.

His application comes amid growing calls for a local man to lead the country’s team away from hiring an expatriate, who in most cases has proved too expensive for the cash-strapped NFF to afford.

The former Tanzania coach has previously assisted Samson Siasia as well as Augustine Equavoen in the national team.

He led Nigeria to win a record fifth U17 World Cup in 2015 in Chile while parading the likes of Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, who today are established full internationals.

The former Barcelona winger has also worked in Sudan and Egypt as a coach.

Amuneke was named African Player of the Year in 1995, won a historic Olympic football Gold in 1996, the 1994 AFCON as well as major honours with Egyptian giants Zamalek and Sporting Lisbon of Portugal and Barcelona.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. Oliseh has volunteered his services if we need it. He is too good to submit an application, we have to submit our application to him. He even brought graphics of land mass v population to show that we’re underperforming based on our land mass.

Nigeria got to improve the local league. Sunday Oliseh is just saying what we have been saying on this platform for over 2 decades now.

Based on his love for the team. An Afcon winner, an Olympic gold winner, an U17 world cup winner and etc. Led Tanzania to Afcon. Give Amuneke the job. But they must support him. Allow him to implement his program. Don't impose coaches on him and sabotage his program. Amuneke must get good lawyers to help him craft a good contract that spells everything out.

What year(s) were these?

And just to confirm, you are referring to the same Amunike who does not know anything other than the archaic 4-2-4 gung ho formation? right?

Amuneke preferred formation is 4-3 -3. He coached a team that had Kingsley Michael, Chukwuze, Osimhen, Nwakili at the U17 world cup.

Amunike’ a Tanzania copped 8 goals in at the 19 Afcon. They were the only minnow in the last 3 Afcons not to show any kind of defensive ability in their play. In the same period, teams like Benin, Mozambique, Mauritania , Guinea Bissau and E Guinea all showed better organization in defense. Just saying….

That Tanzania team got issues. Amuneke approach was to use his offense as the best way of defending. He did a great job qualifying them for Afcon. Keshi(RIP) also Had success with Togo qualifying Togo for the World cup. We don't appreciate what we had with Keshi until we no longer have him. Stephen Keshi is a trug legend. The Big Boss.

Oliseh obviously wants the job but he is not desperate. If the conditions are not right, he won't take it. If I were Oliseh I would look for a job on the continent. but I guess he is happy with his current gig,
And if you use your deductive skills, you will notice that Oliseh has already been interviewed or contacted or applied for the job. Something is going on behind the scenes.

AMUNIKE IS APPLYING; OLISEH NOT NECESSARILY

I can support either - only ruling out a foreign coach.

Former Tanzanian coach, Amuneke has applied for the job. Maybe we can now connect the dots on why a player based in Tanzanian was invited for the upcoming friendlies.
Maybe he's actually the one that submitted the list of invites players to the NFF.
