Nigerian striker Bala Garba is being sued for breach of contract by his Swedish club GIF Sundsvall.
The club have complained to the Swedish Football Federation (SFF) saying that the player has signed for Norwegian side IK Start, without their permission.
Sundsvall claim they had already been in talks with another Norwegian side Ham Kam, and had agreed to pay £40,000 for Garba.
That deal has now fallen through because of Garba's deal with IK Start, who say that they are only willing to pay £28,000 for the player.
GIF Sundsvall are now suing the player for more than £40,000.
"We have taken this action because it is the only thing we can do," club boss Urban Hagblom said.
"It is left with the football association to decide."
I have told them that I cannot live like this

Garba however, who scored ten goals last season, has no regrets about his decision to move elsewhere.
"All this is about $25,000. They are mad because I do not want to go where they want me to go.
"They did not ask me which club I prefer, they are only concern about making money."
He also claims that Sundsvall has not been too concerned about his wellbeing and that they haven't fulfilled all the promises they made to him when he joined last year.
"The club did not provide me and my family with the furnished apartment that was promised.
"I am not making ends meet, my bills are more than I can afford.
"I have told them that I cannot live like this," he added.
Hagblom is not happy with the remarks.
"I am surprised that he has decided to berate us in this way," he said
The SFF is expected to hand down a ruling shortly.
One option is that Garba could be asked made to pay the money himself.
