Many of the top African players who play in Europe are now at the African Cup of Nations with their national teams, but as always there were goals from those staying in Europe.
Belgium
Nigeria's Victor Ikpeba scored his first goal for his new club Charleroi in Belgium and his Togolese team mate Adekamni Olufade grabbed two as they helped beat Genk 4-3.
Another Nigerian on target was Mohammed Aliyu Datti for Standard Liege in their 1-1 draw with Lokeren.
Nigeria's Tosin Dosumnu netted a late winner for Westerlo in their 2-1 victory over Antwerp.
France
It was cup action here, where the Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba scored for Marseille but still lost out 2-1 to Paris Saint Germain.
His fellow countryman Bonaventure Kalou scored as Auxerre beat Montpellier 2-0.
A third Ivorian on target was Amara Diane who scored twice as Reims beat Gueugnon 3-1 in an all second division affair.
Senegal's Mallo Diallo scored two as second division Amiens beat minor league side Plabennec.
Portugal
Benni McCarthy has scored five goals in three matches
South African Benni McCarthy continued his rich vein of form, scoring another two goals for FC Porto as they beat Amadora 2-0.
He has now scored five in his last three outings for his club.
Cameroon's Rudolph Douala grabbed the winner for Uniao Leiria as they beat Academica 2-1.
Italy
Nigeria's Ayodele Makinwa scored the equaliser for Modena against Inter Milan in a 1-1 draw.
Turkey
Ghana's Samuel Johnson was on the score sheet as Gaziantepspor beat Buraspor 3-2.

Arouna Kone scored for Roda JC as they beat RKC Waalwijk by two goals to one.
