THIS CAMEROUN IS BEATABLE.

Post by SESEMA »

We have all seen Cameroun play three times. These are my observations.

1. They have a very physical style of play.
2. They are very good attacking from the right side of mid-field with Geremi starting the offensive play.
3. Their defence is suspect to crosses from the flanks and cornerkicks.
4. They play from the mid-field (Geremi, Djemba and Mbami)
5. They are very weak on the left side of their attack and defence. Atouba, Iddrissou are ordinary. They are better on the right side.
6. Their central defenders are very rough (Song and Mettomo).
7. They have a very good coach.

Nigeria also has endless list of negative points to our play but I think the most important that we quickly need to address is our level of fitness and dedication.

To beat cameroon, we must do the following things.

1. We must be very fit and physical, ready to contest every ball. Egypt and Algeria did it against them and it worked.
2. We must play a 4-5-1 formation, thus crowding the mid-field.
3. We must not allow the camerounians to play in the mid-field.
4. We must play a very calm game and not rush.

Enyeama

Yobo Okoronkwo

Abbey Udeze

Olofinjana Lawal

Aghaowa Ekweme

Okocha

Utaka

This formation will be used most whenever we are defending and will shift to a 4-3-3 kind of formation when we are attacking with Aghaowa and Ekweme attacking from the right and left respectively.

Justifying my choice of players,

1. Aghaowa, Olofinjana, Lawal and Ekweme are ball fighters and will definitely compete well with Mbami, Djemba, Geremi and Iddrissou as the case may be.
2. We need the defenders as they are since they are becoming more comfortable.
3. Kanu, Ikedia and Osaze remain on the bench and formation may change immediately they enter the field late in the second half when Okocha will move backward into the central mid-field, Kanu can come in to play behind Utaka.

If we can do this, the camerounian team will lose.

Any comment, addition or substration.

1. They have a very physical style of play.
We have pretty boys who don't want to get hurt (-1)
2. They are very good attacking from the right side of mid-field with Geremi starting the offensive play.
If I read this right, that means they are attacking our left - based on recent games, this is defensively the stronger side. (+1)
3. Their defence is suspect to crosses from the flanks and cornerkicks.
Our wingers don't know how to cross (do we even have wingers). Our strikers don't make good use of the cross (-1)
4. They play from the mid-field (Geremi, Djemba and Mbami)
How well we counter this will depend on what team chukwu puts out there (0)

5. They are very weak on the left side of their attack and defence. Atouba, Iddrissou are ordinary. They are better on the right side.
We are better attacking through the middle or right - so far we havent done squat from the left (-1)
6. Their central defenders are very rough (Song and Mettomo).
We don't have any "bullish" strikers ala amotaxi
7. They have a very good coach.
We dont!!!

Damn - this doesnt look good. I hope our guys find other ways to counter this.

Of course they are beatable. It will be interesting to see whether Udeze would be able to shackle down Geremi where baba failed so miserably in 2000.
