Who is Bitrus Minusu of Coton Sports?

Coton Sport Garoua emerge biggest winners of the season
28-déc.-2003

In only ten years of national division one football, the giants from the north, Coton Sport Garoua have taken their first double.

After winning the championship title more than a month ago, they have lifted the Cup of Cameroon for the first time also. They beat Sable Batie 2-1 in Yaounde. It was Sable’s second consecutive lose at the final.

Meanwhile, it was Sable who shot into the lead in the 45th minute with an own goal from both goalkeeper Mathurin Kameni and his defender Raymond Nsangue. Before then Coton Sport held a precarious advantage over Sable, keeping the ball in Sable’s half, but failing to finish properly.

Strikers Mathias Nlend and Ngom Some for Sable championed some very dangerous counter attacks. Veteran Sylvester Ambe and Casimir Kouotou all had narrow misses before the half.

Once more, Coton Sport demonstrated that they were better than Sable this season. They recorded two excellent goals in the second half. First from Wilfrid Endzanga a minute after resumption and then 19 minutes later, Nigerian born substitute, Bitrus Minusu made two.

But the man of the day must have been Sanda Oumarou. He made Coton Sport’s right wing his home. After cleaning the area of all opposition, Sanda made the crossings and two of his crossings were finished up by the scorers.

Before Sanda was substituted in the 79th minute he had done enough to offer Coton Sport victory as no more goals were scored. In spite of frantic efforts from Francis Viban, Valery Temfa and Mathias Nlend of Sable, Coton Sport held on and even took the danger several times into the enemy camp.

Certainly the motivation made the difference. While Coton Sport were aiming at a double, Sable were struggling to save a season which they almost ended in division two.

Coton Sport’s coach, Lamine Ndiaye was glad to winner. “It’s a long time no club has achieved this (the double). It was proper reward for the boys who have had a very congested season”, Ndiaye said.

For Ambe, Sable’s failure was at the door steps of their managers. He said the first eleven who eliminated mighty Canon Yaounde at the semi finals did not start off against Coton Sport for reasons known only by the managers.

However, Sable were consoled with the fact that they will have a continental place in the Confederations Cup, since Coton Sport will be involved with the Champions League.

This time we would make no mistake about it. The boy from Naija would wear the green, red, and yellow shirt. We let George Weah go from Tonnere with playing for the Cameroon national team. It would never happen again.
Only two things in life are certain - death and taxes. But there is one other unpleasant certainty: criticism. No one escapes it entirely and often our careers, our emotional stability, even our happiness depends on how we react to it."By Benjamin Franklin"
