Was 1979 not the year that Sharks beat Mandilas in the FA Cup semi-final at National Stadium after which there were problems with electricity/overcrowding and a few fans died? :( :(

1981 Enugu Rangers 2-0 Bendel Insurance

I saw that game. I don't recall the complete line-up, but Kadiri Ikhana was outstanding for Bendel Insurance. A feisty Bendel attack was almost single-handedly thwarted by Emmanuel Okala, who made miraculous save after miraculous save. I believe that on that day, he demonstrated unquestionably that he was still Africa's number one.

The Rangers played a very beautiful, controlled game, moving the ball around and making use of space. The started out like a bolt of lightning, scoring in the 2nd minute, withstood an all-out attack from Bendel for the rest of the half, then re-established control for most of the 2nd half.

Man of the match was most definitely Emmanuel Okala :!: :!: :!:

Cheers.

in that match, chairman had a very good day also but sadly couldnt do same against algeria in lagos in the wc qualifier.
with nwobodo in the stadium, the 81 result was a direct revenge for the 78 upset.

in the 78 match, goalkeeper kept shouting at chukwu: ''ogboe na bia, ogboe na bia'' (ogboe is coming again)
anyway ogboe scored scored 2 and after the 3rd, the legendry ernest okonkwo of blessed memory commented: '' 1 is good, 2 is beautiful, 3 is wonderful......'

in 1980 final, dimunitive sam okpodu had his leg broken in 2 by a stores defender in the sewcond half.

Bret-hart,

100years plus? I will suggest you lap up the history. I remember saying the same thing to my elders when they talked endlessly about Inua Rigogo, Dejo Fayemi, Elkanah Onyeali and Sam Garba. There will be a time too when you refer to Yekini and people will say "go away, you are too old." It is the lack of respect for tradition that has caused this current idiotic SE set the World Cup appearance at the expense of minnows like Togo, Ghana and Angola. These days when anybody can just pick up the SE shirt. Those days, if you see the SE shirt lying around, the best you will do is to take it to Segun Odegbami or Muda or Odiye and give it to them, not ask to wear it because you play for Bin Laden FC of Jerusalem.

[1] Raccah Rovers were based in Kano
[2] DIC Bees were based in Kaduna
[3] They are not the same club
[4] DIC Bees later became Ranchers Bees
[5] Chris Udemezie never coached in Kano
[6] The team you just outlined was DIC Bees
[7] DIC stands for Defence Industries Corporation. The club was funded by the Kaduna corporation that manufactures munitions. It is based in Kakuri, Kaduna
[8] By 1983, Raccah Rovers was no longer a force to be reckoned with in Nigerian football
[9] Ranchers were a good team but had very little to show for their endeavour. Matters were not helped when Udemezie got them relegated
[10] There were some damn good players in that DIC team.

this young man really needs 10 pointers to explain that raccah is not DIC. perhaps he long waited for this opportunity.

I made an error (raccah /ranchers) like we all would do. but then, back in the day, to some of us then, kano, kaduna, katsina, gusau etc were all one and the same.

here is the low about your ranchers/DIC bees.

THE history of the Ranchers Bees football club of Kaduna Can be traced to as far back as 1964 when some players in the kaduna Metropolis came together to form a football team and some well Meaning individuals decided to support the aspirations of these young-Stars.

The result of this combined effort was the registration of a club called Kaduna United. Not quit long after, the name was changed to Kaduna Bees’ football club.
At that point in time, there exited a club in Kaduna called Defence Industries Corporation, (DIC) Bullets whose bulk of players were staffers of the Defense Industries Corporation.

The Bullets poor showing soon led to a management decision to negotiate a Merger of the club with the Kaduna Bees football club. The merger was subsequently affected in 1974. The merger gave birth to the DIC Bees United football Club of Kaduna which was later named DIC Bees football club of Kaduna, the Result of organist ional streamlining and the centralization of the Executive Committee. The merger of the two clubs and the reorganization of the executive board was a kind of rebirth of the club? DIC Bees football club soon became a house hold name not only in the North but the country as a whole.

The club campaigned in the division one league, and also in 1983 got to the National challenge cup final where it lost to Rangers International football of Enugu after a hard- fought match.

Dahiru sadi, the enterprising midfield man was without doubt the most outstanding player on that day, tormenting the formidable Rangers defence with So much ease and class. But at the end of it all, Christopher Udemezua and his Resourceful boys were the unlucky losers. Bees in addition to not winning the challenge cup that year were relegated to the second division after the 1984 league season. Immediately after the club’s relegation to the second division, troble sparked off among the club’s management. The major cause was identified as financial constraints

The club at that time was no longer capable of maintaining most of their reliable players like Dahiru said, Tajudeen olaiya, Ayo ogunlana, Godfrey Brown (Goalie) and several other who went down south in search of greener pasture. One of the departing players at that time was Dahiru side, “I have to leave for another club because the management ignored me when I laid my financial problem to them. So I decided to look for some where else, just where my brothers and sisters can also enjoy and Benefits, for my career.” And that was the belief too of most of the other players.

Their departure further dampened the spirit of the hard –fighting club. The club remained the second division until some of the club founding members decided to come in and save the situation. The now Director general of the club Kabir Umar, initiated the more and got his younger brother, mukhtar committed to buying over the club from DIC. Fortunately for kaduna soccer fans and all those interested in the bees, the S.O.S. delegation led by Alhaji Kabir umar to Mukhtar Ahmed Mohammed ‘Aruwa’, the Executive Chairman of the of the Allied Ranchers Nigeria limited, paid off in 1986.

The club was sold to Allied Ranch Nigeria limited at a cost of N 150,000 and also 47-seater bus worth N 160,000 was bought for the Club. About N60, 000 was also set aside.
