ANC Records: Cameroon and Nigeria virtually tied.
P W D L GF GA GD
CAM 53 30 13 10 75 43 32
NIG 53 31 9 13 77 56 21
Egypt has the most wins at 37, but has played 16 more games. There is no doubt that Cameroon and Nigeria are the two most productive and consistent footballing nations in the continent.

Good stats Mbape. Where did you get them from? However, surely, Ghana's record must be more impressive than that of everyone else.Mbape wrote:P W D L GF GA GD

Meanwhile, what is the latest from the Lions camp? Is this January 10 camp going ahead as planned and is Mboma definately out? Also, what is likely to happen to Eto'o?
The stats that count are the number of trophies won. Anything else is all relative and secondary.

Cameroon and Nigeria are not tied if you look at it detailly. Cameroon outclasses Nigeria in productivity and consistency of appearances.
-NFA was created in 1945 and joined Fifa (CAF) in 1959, Fecafoot was created in 1959 and joined Fifa (CAF) in 1962. Thus a 3 year gap worth noting
-Nigeria played her first Nations cup qualifier in 1961, Cameroon in 1967. (Technically speaking this is when they started participating in any Nations cup games). A six year gap also worth noting.
-Nigeria took part in her first Nations Cup tournament in 1963, Cameroon in 1970. (The finals stage that is)
Nigeria won her first Nations Cup in 1980, Cameroon in 1984
-Nigeria has won 2 Nations cup trophies Cameroon has won 4.
CONCLUSION: From 1959 to 2003 Nigeria has played 53 Nations cup (tournament) games, won 31 with 2 trophies and Cameroon from 1962 to 2003 has played 53 (tournament) games, won 30 with 4 trophies.
So is that a tie?

Cameroon numbers are slightly better, but over a 43 year period, it is a statistical dead heat. In terms of big games, it is another matter entirely.27 wrote:Not according to those stats on top of the page.Larry Ashagbe wrote:chopeski,
Cameroon stats are better than Nigeria.
With all due respect to Nigeria, without the Abacha politics that prevented participation in 1996 and possibly 1998 at a time when Nigeria was undisputably the best in Africa, she'd probably have many more wins to her record. But that's speculation now.

The stats are from the CAF website. On the lions camp, latest info. is that the 26 players will regroup in Malaga, Spain on the 10th for training camp, where they'll scrimmage with local sides prior to departure for Tunisia. Mboma's situation is rather a mystery at the moment. He was part of a 30 man initial squad which is now looking to have been unofficial. The Japanese reported that Mboma was scheduled to have surgery to correct a nagging knee problem in the off-season. That may be the reason for his exclusion.Ayo Akinfe wrote:Good stats Mbape. As for Eto'o, he more than likely will not play in the olympics qualifier against Ivory Coast this weekend (and really, he should not have been called up for that anyway). His relationship with Mallorca is in the pits right now, and were it not for the fact that Real stands to gain half of his transfer fee, Mallorca would be getting rid of him during this transfer window. Valencia, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Roma are keeping constant tabs on him.
A very nice and impressive records from both countries. Both what makes Cameroun even with us is the year they've won the cup they won every match all the way to the final except one or two draws along the way. In Cairo'86 they made it to the final and Dakar'92 made it to the semi's...
The Lions have won it when it mattered the most hile Naija has also won games that matters the most but not the cup...

Mbape is flattering us.

Not at all of all the yeye Camerounians who come here to talk nonsense, MBAPE is guy with objectivity and always hits it right to the point no matter what. I always enjoy reading his responses and even when the Eagles and Lions war take place he always look at things from an overall point of view...

If that dubious penalty was not allowed do you think they would have the upper hand in the stat? Abeg, you guys are overrating the camerounians jo, the last time i checked they won with a dubious penalty by a biased refree selected by that hayatou man who obviously know his place of birth.

I second dat wan bro. I would prefer to show up only once and win than show up ten times and have nothing to show for.chopeski wrote:The stats that count are the number of trophies won. Anything else is all relative and secondary.

All things considered, the stat. is accurate. Naija could have won another ANC in 1996 when we were at our peak. No thanks to Abacha. The fact that we joined CAF earlier doesn't mean we were active during those early periods. The real stat. however is the # of ANC won and Cameroun has the edge. I hope Mbape does not lull us into complacency while they win another ANC.
...but with God all things are possible...
I think the best stat is that Nigeria has faced Cameroon in three ANC finals and is 0-3

This is the year all anormalities will be made right. Starting with Senegal in the semi-final, we shall put them back in their place with a 3-0 win, then face Cameroun in the final and whip them 2-0 8).
2 of the finest indigenous coaches Nigeria ever had lost in a space of 4 days. Dear Lord, is this a sign that you are taking away from us what we failed to appreciate? I pray for forgiveness of our sins. I pray for the humility to recognize our wrongs and the humbleness and wisdom to right our ways.
