This Ogbonna guy is Nigerian and he also scored a hat-trick. Blessing Kaku seems to have settled in Israel too.

Soccer / Hapoel TA drubs Betar 4-1 in Abuksis homecoming

By Asher Goldberg

Betar Jerusalem suffered its seventh away loss last night, losing to Hapoel Tel Aviv 4-1. Hapoel was led by Ibazito Ogabona who scored a hat trick. Betar is the only team this season not to record an away victory.

Before a near sell-out crowd, Yossi Abuksis demonstrated his essential role in reinvigorating Hapoel, a team that had played poorly in his absence, but was fresh and aggressive last night.

"The main reason for the victory is Yossi Abuksis," declared coach Dror Kashtan after the game. "Any further explanation is unnecessary. You saw the reason that he's here. The new system, with one player back [Abuksis] and three forward made the difference."

Indeed, in the 4th minute, Yossi Rosen, in his new position as forward midfielder, lofted a ball from the right side and Tal Chen, playing his second game of the season, headed it into the top of the net. Chen made Hapoel fans forget the absence of Shimon Gershon.

Betar was on the field for 92 minutes, but reaped only one moment of happiness. At the 7th minute, Maor Melikson sent the ball forward to Shlomi Arbeitman, and the fresh IDF recruit outmaneuvered goalkeeper Shavit Elimelech to slip the ball into the goal to tie the match 1-1.

From that point it was all downhill. At the 14th minute, Abuksis deftly passed the ball to Ogabona, who easily scored Hapoel's second goal. The third goal was quick to follow, just three minutes later. Again it was Abuksis feeding the Nigerian striker who drove a rocket that nearly ripped Betar's net.
Hapoel slowed down the pace in the second half, enabling Betar to show some signs of life.

But at the 53rd minute, Betar's Eliran Danin lost control of the ball, and Ogabona got the best of Jerusalem's goalkeeper Itzik Kornfein for his third of the night, bringing the score to 4-1.
"Hapoel Tel Aviv was better and the first to get to every ball," Betar's coach Eli Ohana said after the game." They deserved to win. There are no excuses."

Ashdod brings its hope to Hatikva

After seven winless outings, and with new coach Yossi Mizrahi, Ashdod SC will hope to turn its fortunes around tonight at Tel Aviv's Hatikva Quarter in a showdown with Bnei Yehuda (20:35 Channel 10).

"We have to change the team's way of thinking," Mizrahi said yesterday. "Ashdod will advance toward the top of the league. We have the tools to do that."

Ashdod's Haim Revivo had to leave practice early yesterday after twisting his ankle. A decision will be made this morning on whether he will be ready to play tonight. Itzik Zohar is likely to make his debut for Ashdod tonight, as is Blessing Kaku, recently acquired from Hapoel Be'er Sheva. Alon Hazan and Yossi Ophir will not be able to play due to penalties they have incurred.

"The game represents a turning point for us for moving into first place," Bnei Yehuda coach Nitzan Shirazi said yesterday.

Irit Siton also contributed to this report.
