if obafemi martins who has never played for his country of birth could be nominated,i see no reason why kanoute who have had a fantastic season should not have been nominated for the african footballer of the year.

Although it may not be a requirement, playing for you national team definately weighs more on the mind of the voters than individual achievement for clubsides.

As for Kanuote, how many ANC qualifier matches did he play for Mali?
