Finidi ready for Mallorca return
Tuesday, 06 January 2004
Finidi George is set to officially rejoin Primera outfit Mallorca.
The Nigerian midfielder has been training with The Islanders for the past two months, but is now poised to pen a permanent deal after proving his fitness.
Mallorca are to sacrifice Serbian winger Jovan Stankovic as George will occupy one of the four non-EU spots in the squad.
The African was brought back to Estadio Son Moix by Mallorca boss Luis Aragones who managed the tricky wideman during his previous spell at the club in the 2000/01 season.
George, 32, had been without a club since leaving Ipswich Town in January last year.
It is something of a surprise that Mallorca are to dispense with the services of Stankovic who only rejoined the club from Atletico Madrid last summer as part of the deal which took Ariel Ibagaza in the opposite direction.
Although the midfielder has only made three starts this season, he has a further 12 substitute appearances to his name, and it was widely expected that Mallorca would choose to release Uruguayan Martin Liguera.

Nice one George. The most under rated Winger Nigeria ever had. A truly great player.
Arsène Wenger at Arsenal, 1996 to 2018. I was there.

Thank God for him, I hope he must now have learnt his lesson like Ike Sorunmu, Nigeria almost ruined his carrier with a constant call up at Ipswich when they were battling relegation as he then always answered the patriotic calls. At the end of the day his services was dispensed like waste materials based not on his performances.

His longetivity is beginning to impress me. Something tells me he is about to reinvent himself.
For many years upon this spot
You heard the sound of a merry bell
Those who were rash and those who were not
Lost and made a spot of cash
He who gave the game away
May he Brynn in hell and rue the day
