Oliseh ...a victim of Mafia he once headed –Chief Akinyele

Former chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Chief Alex Akinyele, has described recent moves in some quarters to bring former skipper of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, back to the team as a case of "former Mafia fighting for relevance in the fold where he held sway before his unceremonious exit."
Chief Akinyele, while in a chat with Daily Sunsport, said the complication that exist in the effort to make Oliseh relevant once again in the Nigerian football circle, was that his coming back would create disaffection, adding that the former captain was only enjoying the fruit he planted during his reign.

"If Oliseh is still strong and is playing well, there is no reason whatsoever why he should not be invited back to the Super Eagles," Akinyele said.

"As you’re aware, Mafia exists within the Eagles, and Oliseh was part of it. Otherwise, there is no reason why anybody should say he should not come back. Now, the Eagles have a captain who has his own men, and they must always be on the pitch with their man. There may be players who are better than his own people, but they will not get the chance to play just because they do not belong to the cabal. That’s the truth. And that was exactly what the cabal did to Daniel Amokachi when Oliseh was captain.

"If he (Oliseh) says a particular player would not play, that was the final. And as a result of this, he offended many players. So, when he had problem and another person was appointed captain, nobody needed him back to the team.

"It is therefore necessary for the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to take a second look at what is happening within the Eagles. There is politics in their circle. There is animosity and hatred, and if we do not correct it now, it will continue to affect the fortunes of our football.
"Right now, the ladies (the Falcons) are the only team doing us proud. They have lifted our spirit more than the Super Eagles and the Under-23 team.

"I know our football authorities rely heavily on foreign-based players. This is wrong. Most of them play very carefully in order not to pick injuries when they are invited. They do not play with much commitment by facing the dangers and daring the devil. But in their foreign clubs, they play with all what they have.
"NFA should try and develop home-based Eagles, who will play with all their hearts. They should be treated in such a way that they would be proud to wear the national colours.

"We should have by now realised that our over-dependence on foreign players is leading us to nowhere.
"The Eagles went to Tunisia and won Bronze, but I still say that gold should have been better for us. It is because of the singular fact that we are satisfied with anything that comes, that was why we were kicked out of the football event of the Olympics.

"The Dream Team’s defeat has opened another chapter in the career of the NFA. When a match is won, NFA takes the glory. Therefore, when we lose, they should equally take the blame rather than apportioning blames to other quarters.

"The time has come for the Glass House to heed to the warnings of many Nigerians. If the Olympic team could lose scandalously, it is now reasonable to ask, where is our hope?
"Our coaches also have more jobs to do because the success and failure of any team is a reflection of the capability and expertise of the coach(s) in charge.
"There are times when coaches will have very good players, but would refuse to play them. It’s high time our coaches should save us from this heart attack and international embarrassments," the former minister concluded.

I have always thought the selection of the Super Eagles squad to be suspect what with talents like Oliseh, Oruma and Makinwa being left on the sideslines.

Just what sort of criteria is used when people are called to camp? I am curious.
Patrick Ntsoelengo,Nelson Dladla,Petros Nzimande, Abednigo Ngcobo,Doctor Khumalo,Vusi Lamola,Gerald Dlamini,Simom Lehoko,Silvester Kole,Lucas Radebe,Jan Lichaba, Leonard Likoebe,Edson Mguyo, Arie Khongoane,Marks Maponyanye,Donald Khuse, Jabu Pule, Mark Tovey, Zebulon Nhlapo,Gabriel Tikkie Khoza,Moran Khulu,Michael Dlamini,Johannes Mofokeng, Wellinton Manyathi,Jingles Perreira....... to be continued....Amhakhosi Kaizer Chiefs!!!!!!!
