Second National carrier for Nigeria

Post by Kneedeep »

If this goes thru, this will be one of the smartest things a Nigerian government has ever done for a positive purpose. Why?

1. South African Airlines has committed themselves to the first airline including all kinds of training that has already commenced. 600 Nigerians are in SA training as we speak. They will not be able to run the racket they operated on the Lagos-NY flight, chopping all the bread, treating us like dirt, crying broke but still trying to extend the agreement. All without nary one black face in the crew of a purported African Airline. No monopoly for them this time around.

2. Boeing is at a dire finacial crossroads. They are betting the commercial aviation division on the 7E7 and will bring out all kinds of credit to build orders up.

3. As for the bribery angle, Boeing is in hot soup at the moment with the US government for being caught playing fast, any bribes will be at their own expense at this point and very well hidden(read nothing that cannot be written into the books reasonably). Any scandals and they can kiss their share price goodbye. Blaming the Nigerians will not help, ask Shell

If this proposed deal is not a publicity stunt, I know our people are starting to wake up and beginning to use their "high sense" for good purposes.

FG proposes Boeign Afrique as second carrier

By Mohammed S. Shehu

With the new Eagle Airline yet to commence operation, the federal government is proposing the incorporation of another airline, Boeing Afrique into the aviation market to operate as Nigeria’s second national aviation carrier.

Aviation Minister, Malam Isa Yuguda gave the hint yesterday in Abuja, when the director general of Boeing Afrique, West African regional office, Mr Thomas Frisby called on him in his office.

According to him, it would be a matter of strategy for the company to ascent its presence in Nigeria because of the high business potentials in the country and the growing pattern of the aviation industry.

He said, if it positions itself very well in the country, it could "fly Nigerian flag," adding that because of the level of saturation in the operations of over 20 domestic and international airlines, and the size of the population, Nigeria is a strategic market to any international aviation company.

He further called on them to establish their own office in Nigeria and provide technical assistance to aviation institutes, particularly in the area of airspace education, adding that the provision of technical aid to Nigerians would also provide another alternative to ensure better cooperation towards a comprehensive partnership.

Speaking earlier, Mr Frisby said that it is in the interest of his organisation with headquarters in Ghana to assist the West African region with science and technical assistance in order to improve the level of aero-space education.

He said he was in Nigeria to explore business opportunities and facilitate a discussion that would lead to better collaboration.

The meeting is expected to initiate further discussions on the possibility of developing another national carrier besides Eagle Airline.

Eagle Airline is Nigeria’s newly incorporated flag carrier, whose technical partner is South Africa Airways (SAA).

Don't get carried away by the stuff u read in papers. The people in charge of the proposed "Eagle Air" were the same people who ran Nigerian Airways to the ground. Besides Nigerian Airways still has a lot of debt which they have to settle b4 any Aviation Company takes them seriously. Their staff are still owed back pay. Their Hanger is littered with damaged aircraft and aircraft parts. For them to be able to make any progress, they would have to address all these issues.

Homeboy, the staff are in training already, it is a done deal(Eagle Airlines). As for the creditors, that it why the name and corporate structure has changed to avoid liability for debts.

Regarding Nigerian Airways, it was run succesfully till IBB and the boys showed up. There was a public inquiry that gave details as to who did what, all of them are from the IBB/Abacha era hinting at a general societal breakdown. None of those people seriously indicted are currently in the mix.

Nigerian history runs longer than the last ten years of depravity and will continue to run when the embezzlers, after wasting their lucre on beads and baubles are on the streets with tin cups, Amen!

How hard is it to run a viable airline? Ghana Airways have a desk here at BWI and they are very professional and always on time. How hard is it? As far as I'm concerned, the FGN should steer clear... And let private investors take all the risks.
