NIGERIA has won the first edition of the West Africa Academicals Cup, which came to an end yesterday at the mainbowl of the National Stadium. They defeated their Ghanaian counterparts, 5-3 on penalties.

The match kicked off with the Nigerians making early incursions into the Ghanaian goal area. However, they met a brickwall in the boys from Ghana who resisted all their attempts to record an early goal.

The Ghanaians took over possession mid-way into the half and hit the cross bar, but the referee had already ruled for off side. The Nigerians also had their keeper, Abioye Erin, to thank for keeping them in the game.

Nigeria had the opportunity to wrap up the game early in the second half but poor marksmanship robbed them of goals.

The Nigerian team was reduced to 10 men when Olusegun Oludiran got the marching order for a second bookable offence.

Oludiran's marching order brought out the best in the Nigerians as they pressed for the winner. They also made sure the boys from Ghana did not have any clear chance at goal.

Goalkeeper Abioye emerged the hero of the day as he saved two spot kicks when the game went into penalties after it had ended 0-0.

The Ghanaians, however, emerged victorious in the female category as they defeated their Nigerian counterparts 5 - 0.

2 of the finest indigenous coaches Nigeria ever had lost in a space of 4 days. Dear Lord, is this a sign that you are taking away from us what we failed to appreciate? I pray for forgiveness of our sins. I pray for the humility to recognize our wrongs and the humbleness and wisdom to right our ways.

REST IN PEACE COACH STEPHEN KESHI!!! REST IN PEACE COACH AMODU SHAIBU!!!
