Redknapp weeps for Aiyegbeni

HARRY Redknapp was left cursing Portsmouth’s bad luck after Darius Vassell’s bizarre late goal condemned Pompey to defeat at Aston Villa.

Pompey striker Yakubu Ayegbeni had levelled Juan Pablo Angel’s first-half header before a series of ricochet’s led to Vassell’s 83rd-minute winner.

"We didn’t deserve what happened - it was unbelievable," said Redknapp.

"I’ve never seen a scrappier goal than that, but sometimes when things don’t go your way that happens."

Redknapp added: "My players worked their socks off and gave everything, as they have all season. I can’t ask for more from them.

"It was a horrible pitch, a slippery surface, and I thought anything played forward early was a problem.
