Americans* will tell you it's Phelps.

I asked the same question on a hip-hop forum I frequent and most of the black members actually said Phelps. Funny enough, the majority of the members that chose Bolt were white and a lot were from foreign countries.

I truly believe this. I don't believe Bolt or Phelps could compete as effectively in across such a variety of events.

If you ask any American whose censored Olympic coverage has been saturated with Phelps ok course they will pick Phelps
The rest of the world will pick Bolt

allot of the best athletes do not know how to swim
100m marquee event of the Summer Olympics
No one gives a #### about swimming
Everyone can run

The 100m men has been the main event at every Olympics that I can remember...this year is no different. The best athlete is of course Ashton Eaton (decathlon) , but the most recognizable Olympian this year is without question Usain Bolt

now if you are talking about accomplishments between Bolt and Phelps, i dont know why but i value Bolts achievements a lot more than Phelps. It just seems a lot easier to win at swimming. ( i have no basis for this belief)

The sprints are the blue ribbon events of the Olympics.

Bolt is the greatest sprinter of all time by far. He is the greatest Olympian imo.

They're both good, why does one need to be better than the other?

I will say this though, Phelps seem to hide a lot of his emotions and appears arrogant at times whereas Bolt, no matter his history whenever he wins a race, has this childish side of him that naturally comes out. I love it, he reminds me of Bret Favre after a touchdown.

Bolt is without a doubt the most famous Olympic athlete, by far the most recognized olympian. But as far as the best Olympian btwn Phelp and Bolt? Of course it is Bolt no doubt!
