It's funny and crazy. There was already that fear of Keane then in 1994! Keane was 22 at that time and McAteer is older than him by some months.

He also praised Fergie.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... ter-united

Quote:
“Me and Alex Ferguson, we had the same type of traits, of what Manchester United was about. I think that probably created the problems towards to the end. We almost knew we were coming to the end.”

Keane, whose United career ended following a controversial interview with the in-house TV station MUTV, recounted one particular pre-match team-talk which reflected Ferguson’s ability to read the mindset of his players. “I thought I knew what the group might need, that we didn’t need a big team talk,” said Keane. “It was Tottenham at home. I thought please don’t go on about Tottenham, we all know what Tottenham is about, they are nice and tidy but we’ll %$#@^& do them. He came in and said: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’, and that was it. Brilliant.”

Each time I think I have heard the craziest stories about Keane, something more nutty emerges. Danny Higginbotham (former Sunderland player managed by Keane) told a story in his biography about Keane's assessment of Higginbotham's encouragement of his team mates during a game:

Quote:
he [Keane] went round us individually, addressing the kids first. “You’ve got to start applying yourselves in games. You’ve got to give everything. If you carry on like last night, you’ll find yourselves working at f*****g Sainsbury’s this time next year. You’ll be on the dole,” he’s growling.

Gets to me. “Danny,” he says, “All I’m f*****g hearing from you when I’m watching that game yesterday is f*****g encouragement. That’s all I’m hearing.” I thought, well, that’s not so bad. [KEANE CONTINUES] “I don’t f******g want that. I want you to tell some of them they’re being c**ts. Tell them.”

It wasn’t in my nature – I wasn’t going to do that but, equally, I wasn’t going to bite back at Roy.

:rotf: Keane is something else.

Keane: 'I don’t care if it’s Ferguson or the Pope, you’re going to defend yourself'
Quote:
Roy Keane has reignited his war of words with Sir Alex Ferguson by claiming the legendary Manchester United manager only acted in his best interest.
The relationship between the pair has remained acrimonious for several years with bitter words exchanged since Keane left the club in November 2004.

Having played for 13 years under Sir Alex at Old Trafford, the 1999 treble-winner's relationship with United began to unravel after his well-documented criticism of team-mates on a MUTV programme that was pulled from the schedules due to its content.

And the 48-year-old still holds a resentment for his former manager, who he believes depicted him as a disruptive influence in the dressing-room during his final months in Manchester.
"I wouldn't forgive Ferguson. The media spin, how I apparently upset everybody, it was all nonsense," he told Off the Ball.

"I don’t care if it’s Alex Ferguson or the Pope, you’re going to defend yourself.

Quote:
" I think when he apologises I will probably say hello to him, yeah. [But] I've no interest in speaking to the man."
"People talk about Ferguson’s man-management. Don't be kidded by all that.

Quote:
"I was at the club when Bryan Robson left, when Steve Bruce left, two brilliant servants for Manchester United, and I didn't like the way they were treated"
Robson won the Premier League with United in 1993 and 1994 - the same year in which he was left out of the FA Cup final squad and saw Eric Cantona handed his No 7 shirt.

Ferguson had blocked Bruce from pursuing a career in management in the summer of 1995, on the grounds that he remained a key part of his squad, but the former centre-back was subsequently left out of ther 1996 FA Cup final.

Keane was most recently assistant manager at Nottingham Forest, but he left that post in June.

Now in full flow, the former Republic of Ireland midfielder also accused Ferguson of nepotism, with his son Darren part of the 1992/93 Premier League winning squad.

Keane, who scored 51 goals in 480 appearances for United, added: "Darren Ferguson [his son] won a medal. He was very lucky.

Quote:
"His brother was the chief scout for Manchester United for a long time. I'm surprised his wife wasn't involved in the staff somewhere.

"Darren was [the manager] at Preston North End and lost his job. He had a couple of young players on loan from Manchester United. Guess what happens the next day?

"They're pulled out of Preston. Is that doing the best for Manchester United? Do me a favour."

Most savage line: "I'm surprised his wife wasn't involved on the staff somewhere". Does Keano really need to bring in people's wives? Funny enough, part of his descent at Man Utd began when he aggressively challenged first team coach Carlos Queiroz who had been telling the team the importance of constantly repeating training drills. Keane made a crude remark about Queiroz's wife during a training session:

Keane retorted: "Carlos, do you always make love to your wife in the same position?...You change the position, don’t you? Sometimes you have to mix training up a little bit."

His grudges are legendary. A few years ago he was on the same plane as Ferguson and his wife and he blanked both of them the entire flight.
