Arsenal will now be playing Europa League football for the third successive season.

Wenger, who managed Arsenal for 22 years between 1996 and 2018, was disappointed with the way his former side faded after conceding the opening goal.

“I felt that in the first half we did quite alright but as soon as Chelsea scored the first goal we collapsed completely,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“In the second half we didn’t exist. It was a sad night for us.”

Wenger did have some sympathy for the Gunners despite the manner of their defeat.

The 69-year-old acknowledges that the Europa League is a tough competition to compete in alongside a gruelling Premier League season as it places a great strain on the squad.

“I agree that until the quarter-final in the Europa League you play with a reserve team when you play in England because the Premier League is so demanding,” the Frenchman added.

@jamesbenge: Arsenal are facing the increasingly likely prospect that Xavier Amaechi will not sign a new contract at the club after Unai Emery snubbed him from his Europa League final bench, a decision that is known to have gone down poorly with Amaechi & those close to him.
That will be truly unforgivable if he is sold. Everyone knows he is a potential superstar in future. The good thing is, his contract runs till 2022.

Why is it a war? It is a coach player relationship.
The biggest mistake Unai Emery made this season was to bring Ozil back to the team.
I will never understand the reasoning behind it.
Arsenal was doing great when Ozil was playing Fortnight at home every game day.
Bringing back Ozil destroyed our season. Because it pushed Iwobi back to the Bench ...

Gazidis is the architect of the Arsenal debacle. Wenger should have retired after the FA cup win in 2018. The worst decision this year was getting rid of Sven Mislintat. Lets see what the future holds, but I am not convinced by Emeribe.

Imagine spending your career being coached by Mourinho, Low and Wenger. Then end up with Nnai Emeribe! That must truly hurt! No one deserves that, not even for 350k a month!

Ozil should demand a pay increase for what he has had to endure!

Not convinced after he left you in the same state as last year on lean resources in addition to getting very close to a trophy.

Hmmm. Ya Wenger love go bend ya neck soon.

Please do not draw me out, I will not engage you. You are free to your opinions on Wenger, but they do not match the facts.

My opinion (FACT based) is that Wenger should have left after the cup in 2017 (not 2018). I don't know why you people only judge him on his last season when he was abandoned by club, fans, and players. His last and worst season ever at Arsenal. A nightmare 5 seconds lost him the game against Atleti Madrid. He went out in the Semis, and I maintain that the last EL run was better than this current one to the final, and we lost to an excellent team in the Semis (no shame). Wenger also made it to the league cup finals, beating Chelski in a 2-leg Semis before losing to Guardiola's brilliantly doped shity. Wenger won 3 FA cups in his last 5 years, better then Klop, Poch, etc excluding Pep.

Your opinion is not sound, and in time history will rubbish all the opinions of haters. I don't even want to talk of what it meant to have a culture of sublime attacking football (Wengerball)!

Like I said, I am NOT here to argue with you. I don talk my own finish ...

I didn't want to return to a Wengerfest until you mentioned not being convinced about Emery.

First year, no funds and brought us closer in recent years to winning a trophy. I prefer to point the finger at the real culprits in the boardroom.
